before you installed windows did you check the compatablty some laptops do not support windows 8 and do not supply drivers try DRIVER PRO it will cost you money but will do anylaptop
Connect the second monitor to your pc and then right click the mouse on the desktop of your pc. On the dropdown menu you will see an option for 'graphic properties' This is where you should be able to deal with the settings for multiple monitor set up
go to windows update in the start>all programs>windows update and click on custom. After it finishes searching for any latest updates, on the left tab, click on "Hardware, Optional" and check whatever needs updating/you need.
