This is a problem with the vertical circuit and because it "repairs" itself, sounds like either a poor solder connection or a failing capacitor. This is a fairly common problem that is easily resolved. If you have repair experience, you can fix this yourself. Once you start to get vertical lines on your LCD screen, it's usually time for a new screen. I would check first by running an external monitor just to be sure it's not the video card.

The screen will likly need to be replaced. Try an external monitor on it, does it still have lines? if not then its the screen on laptop.

Put your screen saver to black..let the screen saver come on if lines are there you need a new lcd.....if lines are not there uninstalll all graphics drivers reboot your laptop and reinstall this will fix it if not your lcd screen is on its way out.....NEVER CLOSE YOUR LAPTOP AND STAND ON IT THAT IS JUST SILLY THINK ABOUT IT PEOPLE I MEAN COME ON HOW STUPID CAN YOU GET YES PUTTING PRESSURE ON THE LCD WILL REMOVE THE LINES FOR A WHILE BUT THEY WILL COME BACK.

This is a bad video card but unfortunately your video card is not seperate from the motherboard so you have to replace the whole board

This is a very easy fix. Your cable box is not grounded correctly. To fix this you need a AC Plug adapter. This will change your TV ac plug from a 3 wire to a 2 wire. This may sound funny, but trust me on this. I have fix a lot of TV in NY doing just this.

I would suspect defective filter capacitors in the sweep circuits as well as the power supply source voltages.
