Pictures have lines on them

Nothing to do with any chips being faulty.
The clue is in the video....
The video function does not use the shutter.
The shutter has become fouled.
Unfortunately this is a major strip down to clean the shutter

perhaps your Fuji download program is corrupted, or your cable has been broken. Most computers now have a direct plug-in for your memory card, as well as plenty of built-in programs to download your pictures. I like the Vista Photo Gallery (come to think of it, it is the ONLY thing I like about Vista. At any rate, unplug your xD chip from the battery compartment (you can just pull it out, or push it and it pops up), (and close the battery compartment, or you will have to reset the date and time), plug it into your computer, and wait for a bunch of programs to pop up eager to download your photos. If that doesn't work, you may have a bad chip--but if you had a bad chip, you couldn't view your pictures on your camera. If you have XP, you should be able to see the xD as a new drive if you plug it in--not sure which programs will pop up, but you may be able to move the pix just like any files from one drive to another. Good luck. Incidentally, if you need a new cable, internet charges range from 3 to $25.

Did you disable the autorun on your computer? Is operating system detecting the cam/card as removable disk? Which program is downloading the pictures? (Check the program options)
SOURCE: Finepix J20 Digital Camera- says:PROTECTED CARD!
My bet is that the little switch on the SD card is in the "lock" position. Switch it off and try again...
