Hi, I have downloaded the file. It is a text file. What do i do next? I am a novice at computers. I am after a setup disk *exe or *.bat file which will configure the Belkin. Any help would be appreciated. Regards Dilip

Thank you. It is most informative and really appreciate your efforts. I had a belkin router before and have just changed to a BTHomehub. Reading your mail explains why I could not access the extender as it works with Belkin router only!.(My son had set up the original) I now understand how the web site 192.168.2.1 sets the equipment but can't access with new router.Simplicity and logical explanation was very easy to understand, follow and learn.

If I connect the Belkin extender to the BTHub I can see as a available wireless (UNSECURED) Anyone can connect to my network. Is there any way I can secure it in the present setup?

    Kind regards Dilip

Hi,

If I may add to eeagle338‘s posting, it would seem that you need:

1. setup disk
There are no setup files for the Wireless Access Point/Router Belkin F5D7130. However, you need driver/installer/setup files for the Belkin Wireless G Notebook Card F5D7010. These files are OS specific and must match the version of your card.

2. password
If you have done the reset & restored to factory defaults then you don’t need a password (leave it blank) to Login, simply press Submit in the Web-based User Interface. If for some reason you cannot login, you may have to do the reset & restore to factory defaults (again)

3. access the unit (I assume the router); I can't access the unit on 192.168.2.1 (as per manual)
You need to be wired to the router from your PC, connect a LAN cable from your PC’s NIC to the RJ45 Ethernet Jack at the rear of the F5D7130. In your PC, assign static (“Use the following…”) IP Address to your PC - 192.168.2.200; Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0. Open a browser and type “192.168.2.254”, the Web-based User Interface will open. If you have done the reset & restored to factory defaults then as earlier stated, you don’t need a password (leave it blank) to Login, simply press Submit.

5. where can get the setup cd or software?
This site list all the versions of a F5D7010 as well as the appropriate drivers (all are downloadable). And yes they are ".exe" files.

Based on your post “I have reset the unit.”, pls be informed that there are 2 reset methods. Determine which one was performed.
a. Resetting the WAP - Push and release the Reset button. The lights on the WAP will momentarily flash. The Power/Ready light will begin to blink. When the Power/Ready light becomes solid again, the reset is complete.
b. Restoring the Factory Defaults - Press and hold the Reset button for five seconds then release it. The lights on the WAP will momentarily flash. The Power/Ready light will begin to blink. When the Power/Ready light becomes solid again, the restore is complete.

Hope that your concerns were all addressed and that this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

    Hi again,

You're welcome and appreciate the kind words.

As to you query "Is there any way I can secure it in the present setup?"
Yes, either WEP, WPA or MAC Filter and use of a security key.

However, experience has taught me that use of any security injects unnecessary slowdown in a WiFi connection.

In most of my installations (should the client concur), I disable the WEP and WPA and run the system Unsecured. To restrict only allowed PCs to connect via WiFi, I simple enter the client PC's MAC address to the allowed machine listing of the router. Thereafter any and all other trying to connect would simply be ignored and therefore rejected. Please verify that your router has this feature/option.

HI............
Reset IBM ThinkPad Password
An IBM ThinkPad laptop can have three hardware password sets:
  • Power-On Password
  • Hard Disk Password
  • Supervisor Password
Power-On Password RT/CMOS RAM has 8 bytes reserved for the power-on password and the check character. The 8 bytes are initialized to hex 00. The microprocessor can access these bytes only during POST. After POST is completed, if a power-on password is installed, the password bytes are locked and no program can access them.
During power-on password installation, the password (1 to 7 characters) is stored in the security space.
Installing the password is a function of the built-in system program Easy-Setup. The power-on password does not appear on the screen when it is installed, changed, or removed. After the power-on password has been installed, it can be changed or removed only during POST.
Hard Disk Password The hard-disk password (HDP) prevents unauthorized persons from accessing the data on the removable hard disk drive.
Supervisor Password The supervisor password prevents unauthorized persons from changing the system information in Easy-Setup.

  2. Remove the DIMM cover on the bottom side of the computer.
  3. Short circuit the two password pads or put a jumper on the contacts to short the circuit.
  4. Under the short circuit condition, power on the computer and wait until the POST ends. After the POST ends, the password prompt does not appear. The power-on password is removed.
  5. Reinstall the DIMM cover.
If both the power-on password and the supervisor password are set, do the following to remove the passwords:
  1. Press and hold F1 to power on the computer.
  2. Enter the supervisor password. The Easy-Setup menu appears.
  3. Click the Password icon.
  4. Click the Power on icon.
  5. Enter the supervisor password and press the Space bar.
  6. Press Enter twice.
  7. Click Exit then click Restart.

Forget my password dell mini inspirion windows xp servise tag 6gdvpk1

This method is easy enough for newbies to follow - it doesn't require using the Recovery Console or any complicated commands. And it's free - I mention that because you can pay two hundred dollars for an emergency download of Winternals ERD with Locksmith which is a utility for unlocking lost Windows passwords. See here http://www.winternals.com/products/repairandrecovery/locksmith.asp
ERD is an excellent multi purpose product, but you should know it is not a necessary one if you have a healthy system and your sole problem is the inability to logon to Windows due to a forgotten password. Not necessary because you can easily change or wipe out your Administrator password for free during a Windows XP Repair. Here's how with a step-by-step description of the initial Repair process included for newbie's.
1. Place your Windows XP CD in your cd-rom and start your computer (it's assumed here that your XP CD is bootable - as it should be - and that you have your bios set to boot from CD)
2. Keep your eye on the screen messages for booting to your cd Typically, it will be "Press any key to boot from cd"
3. Once you get in, the first screen will indicate that Setup is inspecting your system and loading files.

4. When you get to the Welcome to Setup screen, press ENTER to Setup Windows now
5. The Licensing Agreement comes next - Press F8 to accept it.
6. The next screen is the Setup screen which gives you the option to do a Repair.

It should read something like "If one of the following Windows XP installations is damaged, Setup can try to repair it"
Use the up and down arrow keys to select your XP installation (if you only have one, it should already be selected) and press R to begin the Repair process.
7. Let the Repair run. Setup will now check your disks and then start copying files which can take several minutes.
8. Shortly after the Copying Files stage, you will be required to reboot. (this will happen automatically - you will see a progress bar stating "Your computer will reboot in 15 seconds"
9. During the reboot, do not make the mistake of "pressing any key" to boot from the CD again! Setup will resume automatically with the standard billboard screens and you will notice Installing Windowsis highlighted.
10. Keep your eye on the lower left hand side of the screen and when you see the Installing Devicesprogress bar, press SHIFT + F10. This is the security hole! A command console will now open up giving you the potential for wide access to your system.
11. At the prompt, type NUSRMGR.CPL and press Enter. Voila! You have just gained graphical access to your User Accounts in the Control Panel.
12. Now simply pick the account you need to change and remove or change your password as you prefer. If you want to log on without having to enter your new password, you can type control userpasswords2 at the prompt and choose to log on without being asked for password. After you've made your changes close the windows, exit the command box and continue on with the Repair (have your Product key handy).
13. Once the Repair is done, you will be able to log on with your new password (or without a password if you chose not to use one or if you chose not to be asked for a password). Your programs and personalized settings should remain intact.

I am trying to set up a new printer to a Linksys router model no WRT300 Ver 2.0. I have lost my IP no and also my Network Security Key, Is there any way to retreive these nos Gordon Stephens

The router can be set to factory default by performing either of these two steps:

Resetting the Router Using the Reset Button
Resetting the Router Using the Web-Based Setup Page

NOTE: Pressing the Reset button on the back of the router for 30 seconds will reset your router to its factory default settings. All of the settings of the router will then be erased and the router's IP address will become 192.168.1.1.

Accessing the Router's Web-Based Setup Page
NOTE:To access the router's web-based setup page using Mac, click here.
Step 1:
Open a web browser such as Internet Explorer.
Step 2:
Go to the Address bar and enter your router's IP address ("192.168.1.1" is the default IP of most Linksys routers) then press [Enter].

NOTE : For WRP400, the default IP address would be "192.168.15.1" and if you place the router behind a primary router with the IP address of "192.168.15.1", then the router will automatically assume a new default IP address, "192.168.16.1".

NOTE: If the IP address of the router has been changed, type the router's IP address in the Address bar instead.

The router's IP address can be changed by:

1. Running the router's setup CD.

2. Changing it on the router's web-based setup page.
If you forgot the router's IP address you can:

1. Check the router's IP address. For instructions, click here.

2. Press the Reset button at the back of the router for 30 seconds.

NOTE
: This procedure will reset your router to factory defaults. Any settings on the router will be erased. The router's IP address will be "192.168.1.1" and the password will be "admin".

Step 3:
A new window will prompt for a User name and Password. Leave the User name field blank then enter your router's password ("admin" is the default password), then click OK.

If you forgot the router's password you need to reset the router. For instructions, click here.

I have forgotten my password

Hi,
If you have forgotten the password of your user account there are only two options which can be used.
1)If you have two or more user account on the this computer you can try to access other user account of other user and access user accounts in control panel.
Remove your user account password and log off and try to access your account.
2)If you don't have any other user account then only option is to perform the system recovery.
** you can access recovery manager from the F11 option or Use the recovery cds.
while performing the recovery you will get the option to back up your data please back up your data before performing the recovery or you will loose all your files.
this will resolve your issue.
Thanks.
