My simple tech was working fine. I loaded info on it before I left on my trip. I took it with me on a trip and when I got to my destination it was not working. I put in the laptop that I normally use there and the drive was not recognized. So, when I returned back home and put it in my person laptop it also, did not recognize the drive. Both computers are Windows 7 64bit operating system. When I plug in the USB to the computer my computer makes a sound indicating something has been plug in. Also, I see the blue light flashing on the simpletech and it makes a noise for about 5 seconds and stops and continues to low vibrate but, nothing else happens. But, as I am writing this post, the last sentence that I just described stopped happing. Now the computer does not even make a sound indicating something been plugged in and out of it. I USING different usb cords and plugging it into different slots on the computer. Nothing. But, the Simple tech is running an vibrating. I read several post on here and other forums about this same problem but, no one seems to have a real fix. Did something happen to it when it was scanned at the airport? I have travelled with it several times before and not had this problem. Can anyone help me? Can I at least get my info off this drive?
SOURCE: COMPUTER DOES NOT RECOGNIZED SIMPLETECH EXTERNAL HD
If your External HD is not regerstering it might have errors in it, I
had this problem with my Simple Tech 500gb pininfarina and heres the
steps that finnaly after days of trying to figure out it worked:
(Before starting make sure to disable your screen saver)
1. Restart the computer without the device plugged in to start fresh
2. Wait till it loads up and NO OTHER PROGRAM IS RUNNING
3. Plug the usb into the device then the computer usb port
4. Plug in the power to the device and wait till all the lights are cycling if they do
5. Now open the command prompt
6. Type in “Chkdsk /f N:”
or whatever letter your device is in and let it run if its not moving
don’t do anything till it is complete.
Mine was fixed after letting it do it for about an hour of just sitting there it had a lot of errors in the HD
Hope it helps

Make sure it is plugged in to a USB 2.0 compatible port on the computer.
I found that often, external hard drives just don't have any active partitions and thus don't show up in Windows. Go into the control panel, administrative tools, computer management and then the disk manager and see if it has a partition. If it's just unallocated space, right click and make one.
