Where is the filter?

My clothes are coming out after a cycle covered in lots of dust/hair (http://snag.gy/l00Kb.jpg). Is there a filter on this machine that might need cleaning. If so, how to access?

Mine has a kick plate at the front that comes off. There is a filter there. Uncrew that and pick out anything that has been caught in there. Put a cloth down to catch any water that may come out.

OK I have accessed the black sump pipe now. It is held in place but plastic clips (Herbie clips?). I can't see how to loosen them without breaking them. Do I need a special tool?

  • Dominic Parsons May 08, 2014

I used a small screw driver and put in hole of clip as clip works by zigzags so to unclip I used this to unclip by not going against zigzags with them like slipping the clip off sorry if this confusing. Clip latches with two parts I used screw driver to split to parts of clip apart hope this helps

I actually didn't need to touch the herbie clips - I just loosened the worm clip on the drum connection, that let be bend the sump pipe out and get the filter out to clean it. Full of crud, buttons and collar stays! One tip for tightening the worm clip: you will need to make it tighter than you think otherwise it will leak! I suggest taking a close up photo BEFORE you loosen it to see threaded/tightened it is, then use that as a guide when you reconnect it. If not tight enough, it will leak during a cycle.. as I found out!

My hotpoint is same you have to pull machine out then tip on side carefully then remove black sump pipe right by pump at Back machine clipped on so remove clip holing to drum and pump. Also the pressure sensor might be attached just unclip then clean filter out and put back clipping back on tight. Hotpoint have self cleaning pump on these models but has catch by pump that can get blocked only new models of hotpoint made this easier hope this helped :)

SOURCE: where is the filter to clean it

hi
most of these filters are located at the back of the appliance.

Make sure power is disconnected first!!!

Unscrew the plate at the bottom rear of the appliance.

You will see, on the right hand side, a black corrugated hose that connects from the bottom of the drum to the drain pump.
On the drum end there will be a big metal clamp that you can unscrew. Once lose the hose should easily come off the drum. Inside this hose you will find a filter that may be full of fluff.

Reassembe the hose and make sure you tighten the clamp properly otherwise it will come off and flood everywhere on your next wash.

Regards

The dryer snags and tears up our clothes

Thank you for your post, friend!

From what you are describing it sounds like the felt may have come off your Frigidaire dryer. I would recommend seeking assistance from a professional to come out and properly repair your appliance. This would help avoid any unnecessary part purchases. -Matt

My towels are coming out of the wash frayed and coarse. My lighter cottons are all stretched out. What is causes this to happen and how do I repair it.

Hi

If your washer has developed a bad habit of snagging and/or tearing your clothes; before scrapping your washer, try these few tips:

1) Check, by hand, the smoothness of your washer. Look for any broken fins or roughness on the basket surface. Replace, if necessary.

2) Reduce the size of your loads. Heavy, cramped loads can cause a lot of friction which leads to tears.

3) Reduce the amount of bleach used. Bleach can eat holes in clothing.

4) Verify water level is not too low, especially during rinse cycle, where snags are more apt to occur.

5) Consider placing delicates in a garment wash bag

6) Front load washers have no center agitator, so they are less likely to tear clothes.

Dog hair remains on clothes/blankets after washing

if you want suggested answers you have to provide make, model and type of washer ( top/or front load )
if it is a westinghouse , simpson, hoover or like make top loader , there is a lint catcher bag at the end of the center spindle cover that you simply pull up and unclip and turn inside out to clean
Soe put the detergent in that cover for the washing

My Sony CS11 keeps shutting down randomly. Please

There's a very good chance it's a thermal shutdown, caused by dust, lint and hair clogging the heat sink. If you have a can of compressed air, blow some in where the warm air comes out on the laptop (do so from a few inches away at first and see whether dust starts coming out of the fan at the bottom, so that you don't force dust deeper into the case). You may be able to remove most of it that way. I also masking tape a square of used clothes dryer fabric softener sheet over the fan intake once it's clean (don't cover it with tape) to filter out dust and especially lint and hair - change it when it looks dusty. It really helps.

My Dyson vacum's suction power apperas weaker the usual.

You might want to check three things. First, is the washable filter under the dust bin clean. Take off the dust bin, open the filter cover and check the washable filter. Wash it while you are at it, let it dry 12 hours. Next, make sure the gasket that seals the flip open door to the center of the dust bin is on correctly. Owner's manual shows the correct way and you want to be sure the ribs on the gasket are seated in the grooves on the center tube in the dust bin (this will also cause your washable filter to clog really badly if not on correctly. Third, your cyclone could be plugged with hair or something. This will happen if you pick up something wet, or damp or clean up lots of pet hair. Here's a good site on how to take your cyclone apart and clean it. http://www.exonotes.com/content/node/4

GE Front load washer clothes coming out with holes/torn/even shredded

Metal inside washer drum may be faulty and causing tearing of clothes (run your finger around the inside when empty and you will feel where it snags). Had same problem, only got worse and ruined many expensive t-shirts! Replacement of drum is required and is extremely costly if not under warranty!

LVW - 5005

Remove the cover of LVW and access the DVD assy, unscrew the 4 screws holding the DVD assy to the LVW bottom, remove the top and bottom shield (also 4 screws)and remove the top black plastic cover (4 screws). You will access the DVD spindle.Remove the disk if you still have a disk stuck inside.Visually check the spindle sticky rubber ring, most likely some sticky material migrated on top of the rubber ring and your DVD was stuck on it. Clean the best you can with a cleaner and a non lint cloth.I used a cleaner/degreaser for electronics.DO NOT POWER your LVW BEFORE reinstalling the black plastic cover. There is a laser inside !!! You may now try and if the drawer opens and closes, reassemble everything opposite way you disassembled.
