SOURCE: Epson C48 red and green lights flashing alternately

Messrs Epson told me that I needed to either pay a service centre lots of Money for them to fix the problem and that "For Health and safety reasons" they will not tell me what to do.
That left me with the option of either paying through the nose the equivalent cost of a new printer to a service centre to fix my printer or to send my perfectly functional printer to a landfill and buy a new one.
However, there is a third way....
I purchased a service manaul from a website Mr Google found for me. I then found out about the Epson firmware counter that counts the number of ink dribbles that have fallen into the printers Nappy(Diaper). Mr Google then found somewhere else where I can download the utility to reset the counter. This I did, and in one miinute counter was reset and hey presto the printer works again.
All that remans is for me to curse Epson for building in a deliberate end of life "Time Bomb" into the printer firmware.

The Waste Ink Pads are saturated and the waste ink counter has exceeded its limit. The Waste Ink Pads should be replaced as soon as possible. You can overcome this problem temporarily by using the SSC utility - download from

http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml

and reset the Protection Counter. This will stop the red lights flashing and restore normal operation. However, remember that eventually ink will overflow from the waste ink area and make a dreadful mess, so you must change the waste ink pads before this happens. This requires the disassembly of the printer.

The C64/66 service manual can be downloaded from here:
http://www.eserviceinfo.com/downloadsm/12748/Epson_C64%20and%20C84.html

Should you decide to have a go at changing the waste ink pads, let me know and I can supply some notes on opening the case - it's a pig and the service manual is not that helpful.

Both red lights are flashing on epson stylus c66. I saw some responses that said to reset ink counters. Not sure how to reset ink counters...

well it shall depend on your operating system. there is an available download on the epson website and it is called the ink pad reset utility. if this process tends to detect and install your printer it will work again

the website is www.epson.com/ipr

Epson C66 red light stays on for ink

The first time you install ink cartridges, the printer must charge its print head for about 90 seconds. Wait until charging finishes (the green power.jpg power light stops flashing) before you turn off the printer, or

it may charge improperly and use excess ink the next time you turn it on. If the printer stops moving or making noise, but the green power.jpg power light is still flashing after 5 minutes, turn off the printer. If the light is still flashing when you turn it back on, contact Epson.
Turn off the printer, then make sure the ink cartridges are inserted completely and the ink cartridge cover is closed completely. Also make sure no packing material remains in the printer. Wait a moment, then turn the printer back on to clear the error.

Epson C66 problem

Without the benefit of a response from any of rickyostrom, liusgarciaca, or hotdog233311, I think we can say the problem lies with the fact that your magenta cartridge isn't printing. You can confirm this by carrying out a nozzle check print.

If any of you would like further assistance in restoring your magenta to working condition, please do a new post to this effect.

Red lights flash alternately

Your machine has hit the Ink Overflow Protection Counter Limit. Sounds dreadful but fairly easy to fix.

Get this C66 Rescue Kit and follow the instructions. your printer should spring back to life in no time.
