SOURCE: Flashing Lights on HP 690C - Won't Print

Hi Stev, First I know this is going to sound strange but have you disconnected the printer cable from the printer itself? (not the computer) If not try unplugging both the parallel and power cables for 30 seconds, then when you reconnect and power up hit the resume button. I've seen problems in the past where a job was killed like that and the printer would not work until the parallel cable was removed from the printer. The light pattern you describe, resume light blinking with the power light on, can mean any one of the following things on that model HP. 1. Top cover is open. Open the top and make sure there is nothing keeping the cover from closing all the way. Don't forget to check the underside of the cover for something stuck to it. Close the top cover. 2. A print cartridge is missing or an incorrect print cartridge is installed. Install the correct print cartridge. AND/OR Verify that the print cartridge is properly snapped into place. Close the top cover. 3. Printer detects an out-of-media condition. Load media in the lower (IN) tray and press the Resume button. 4. Media is improperly loaded. Remove media from the IN tray, re-square the stack, and reload. Make sure that the media-width adjuster and media-length adjuster are against the stack of media. Make sure that media is not buckled in the IN tray. Verify that the media-width adjuster is along the left edge of the tray and is pushing the right edge of the media against the right wall. 5. The printer timed out waiting for a form-feed command. Press the Resume button. The page will eject from the upper (OUT) tray. 6. Printer detects out-of-ink condition. Replace the print cartridge and press the Resume button. 7. Dirty Cartridge Contacts Use a clean foam-rubber swab or lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water. (Distilled water is recommended. Tap water might contain contaminates that could damage the cartridge.) Locate the copper-colored circuitry strip on the back of the cartridge. Clean the copper-colored strip with the dampened swab or cloth. Do not wipe the nozzle end of the cartridge or touch the silver-colored nozzle plate on the bottom of the cartridge. Unplug the power cord from the printer. Clean the carriage contacts on the back wall of the ink cartridge carriage with a damp foam-rubber swab or lint-free cloth. Use a dry foam-rubber swab or lint-free cloth to remove the moisture from the contacts. If the carriage contacts show noticeable damage, contact the HP Customer Support Center listed in the printer's User's Guide. Plug the printer back in and try printing again. 8. Printer detects paper in the paper path. Turn the printer off and open the top cover. Make sure that paper is not jammed in the printer. Lift the right black rectangular paper sensor (located in the middle of the printer just below the silver rod on which the cartridge carriage slides) and make sure that nothing is stuck under the paper sensor, perhaps by blowing under the sensor. Close the top cover and turn the printer on. Try printing again. If none of this helps let me know and I'll see what else I can dig up on the problem. El Duderino

SOURCE: I have a HP LaserJet 1320n printer and it will not

Possible Solution to your issue!

Blinking Attention Light HP LaserJet 1320 Series Printer - The printer displays an orange blinking attention light which will not clear. This usually indicates one of the following issues have occurred. Perform the following in the order provided to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.
1. Insufficient power. Disconnect the power cord from any surge protectors or power strips and plug the unit directly into an electrical wall outlet.
2. There is a paper jam in the printer.
3. The top cover is open. Open the top cover, reseat the print cartridge, and close the top cover, making certain it is shut properly.
4. No paper was loaded in tray 2 or the tray was not loaded properly causing a mispick. Perform the following steps to load tray 2.
A. Pull the tray out of the printer and remove any paper.
B. Move the blue side width guide outward to match the paper size that is being loaded. Locate the blue guide pointer on the left side of the tray. If using a letter-size (8.5 by 11 inch) paper, match the guide point with the LTR/LGL engraving located on the bottom, left-side of the lift plate.
C. Locate the blue tab on the rear paper-length guide. Locate the triangle-shaped pointer in the middle-right on the bottom of the tray. Press on the blue tab and adjust it so that the triangle-shaped pointer matches the paper size that is being loaded. If using letter-size (8.5 by 11 inch) paper, match the triangle-shaped pointer with the LTR engraving on the bottom of the tray.
D. Place the paper in the tray and make sure that it is flat at all four corners. Keep the paper below the height down arrows on the paper-length guide in the rear of the tray.
E. Slide the tray back in the printer.
5. The tray 2 paper level indicator is stuck.
6. If the printer comes back to a Ready state, print a Self-Test/Configuration page. If the printer is not in a Ready state, proceed to step 7.
A. Verify the printer is in a Ready state. (The green LED next to the U-shaped icon is on steady and no other lights are on.)
B. Press down on the green GO button until the orange Attention light comes on (approximately 5 seconds), and then immediately release the GO button. The green GO button will begin to blink and a Self-Test/Configuration page will print.
7. If the attention light is still on, perform a cold reset. A cold reset, sets most, but not all, default variables stored in NVRAM back to the factory default values. It typically does not reset the page count, paper tray sizes, localization language, or formatter number. Complete the following to perform a cold reset.
A. Turn the printer off.
B. Press and hold down the green GO button.
C. Turn the printer on and continue to hold the green GO button for at least 5 seconds, but not longer than 15 seconds. During the process, the Attention LED will turn on.
D. Release the GO button.
NOTE: If both the Attention light and the Ready LEDs turn on before the GO button is released, the cold reset procedure must be started over at step 1.
E. The printer LEDs begin cycling. The cold reset process runs until completion and the printer returns to the Ready state

SOURCE: flashing on/off light on hp deskjet 3520 printer

Introduction The printer lights indicate the printer status. These lights can be on, off, or blinking (flashing), depending on the status of the printer. The sections below describe the most common combinations of blinking lights, how to fix the issue, and how the issue is caused. NOTE: The light patterns included in this document are described as blinking or flashing lights. For the purpose of this document, "flashing" means the same as "blinking." Blinking lights Printer lights can can blink for more than one reason, so the solution can vary. These solutions need not be performed in a specific order, but solutions for the most common issues are presented first. c00374282.gif Solution

Close the cover.

Cause

Printer cover is open. Solution

Insert appropriate media in the In tray.

Cause

The printer is out of paper. Solution

  • Change the printer's print mode setting.
  • Change the printer's paper type selection.
  • Use a different brand of label media.

Cause

The printer has difficulty picking up label media. Solution

Follow each of these steps until the problem is resolved:

  1. Remove the paper from both paper trays.
  2. Press the power button once. Wait a moment for the paper jam to clear.
  3. If printing labels, verify that a label did not become detached while passing through the printer. If the paper jam was not resolved, continue on to the next steps.
  4. Remove the rear access door.
  5. Remove the paper jam through the opening at the back of the printer.
  6. Replace the rear access door.
  7. Reload the paper into the paper In tray.
  8. Print the document.

Cause

There is a paper jam. Solution

Follow each of these steps until the problem is resolved:

  1. Remove and then reinsert the print cartridge(s) into the printer.
  2. Clean the print cartridges automatically using the Clean Cartridges option in the Printer Assistant.
  3. Manually clean the print cartridges and print cartridge cradles:
    • Open the printer cover and wait until the carriage moves to the center.
    • Press the Power button to turn off the printer.
    • Disconnect power cord from the back of the printer.
    • Remove the print cartridges and place them on a piece of paper with the nozzle plate facing up.
    • Lightly moisten a cotton swab with distilled water.
    • Clean the face and edges of the print cartridges with the swab. Do not touch the print cartridge ink nozzles or copper contacts.
    • Wipe the underside of the print cartridge cradle walls using a clean, moistened swab.
    • Reinsert the print cartridges.
    • Close the printer cover.
    • Connect the power cord to the back of the printer.
    • Press the Power button to turn on the printer.
  4. Calibrate the print cartridges.
  5. If the light is still flashing, replace the print cartridges.

Cause

There is a problem with a print cartridge. Solution

  1. Print a printer self-test by holding the power button down with a pencil and opening and closing the top cover four times.
  2. Check the nozzle self-test pattern in the self-test print out. If one or more of the solid rectangular areas are missing, an electrical contact problem may be present.
  3. Remove and then reinsert the print cartridge(s) into the printer.
  4. Print the document.
  5. If the problem persists, follow the steps listed above for cleaning the print cartridges and print cartridge cradle.
  6. Try printing again. If the problem continues, replace the print cartridges.

Cause

The print cartridge has partial loss of electrical interface with the carriage connections.

I have ProBook 6555b for just a few days and my mute button is stuck in orange. No matter if sound is mute or not, button doesn't change to light blue..

I'm not totally sure with the specific model you mention, but I DO know that many of the HP 6xxx series laptops, the light board above the keyboard are touch sensitive, have you tried actually using your finger to touch the amber light itself and see if it changes to blue? (or the volume bar?)

Try tapping a few times with your finger and see if that helps.

Good Luck
