How do get the drive wheel to turn? The transmission is locked up.

Drive wheel has incomplete range of motion. Spreader fan will turn by hand, but not when using the wheel.

Principles of Operation
Transfer Case - Electronic Shift
The four-wheel drive, electronic shift-on-the-fly feature electrically shifts the vehicle transfer case between 2WD, 4X4 HIGH, and 4X4 LOW. The system mode is selected by the operator through the mode select switch (MSS) on the instrument panel. The operator is informed which mode the system is in by two instrument cluster indicators, one for 4X4 HIGH which is 4X4, and one for 4X4 LOW which is LOW RANGE (in 4X4 LOW both the lamps are on). Shifts into 4X4 HIGH can be made at any speed. When shifting into 4X4 HIGH with the vehicle stationary, tooth blockage may occur, preventing shift completion. When the vehicle is driven above 8 km/h (5mph) the shift will complete. When shifting in or out of 4X4 LOW, the generic electronic module (GEM) requires that the vehicle speed be less than 5 km/h (3 mph), the brake pedal be applied, and the transmission in NEUTRAL (automatic transmission) or the clutch pedal be depressed (manual transmission). (The digital transmission range [TR] sensor informs the GEM when the automatic transmission is in the NEUTRAL range position.)
The gearmotor encoder assembly is mounted externally on the transfer case. It drives a rotary cam which moves the mode fork and the range fork within the transfer case between the 4X4 HIGH, 4X4 LOW, and 2WD range positions.
The GEM uses two relays to control the gearmotor encoder assembly shift between 4X4 HIGH, 4X4 LOW, and 2WD modes. The GEM controls the pulse vacuum hublock (PVH) solenoid which supplies engagement and disengagement vacuum to control the hublocks.
The GEM accomplishes shifts by interpreting inputs from:
  • mode select switch (MSS)
  • vehicle speed signal (transmitted from the ABS system)
  • gearmotor encoder plate position
  • brake pedal switch
  • digital transmission range (TR) sensor (automatic transmission)
  • clutch pedal position (CPP) switch (manual transmission)
  • ignition switch
Based on these inputs, the GEM controls the shifts into 2WD, 4X4 HIGH, or 4X4 LOW with the following outputs:
  • low to high relay (clockwise)
  • high to low relay (counterclockwise)
  • pulse vacuum hublock (PVH) solenoid
  • gearmotor encoder assembly
The electronic shift-on-the-fly (ESOF) system has a feature which allows the driver to override the vacuum operated hublocks. When the front hublocks are manually turned to the LOCK position, the hublocks are locked at all times, overriding the vacuum operated system. If the front hublocks are manually turned to the AUTO position, the hublocks can only be locked by turning the MSS to 4X4 HIGH or 4X4 LOW position.

I drive 2002 yukon denali and was making a sharp turn when the front wheels lock. They wont turn, i finally got them to turn enough to back up out of the way. It looks like it has enough ps fluid

a broken CV or UJ on a drive shaft can cause the steering to lock up , jack up front end and check for damage to the drive shaft's rubber covers to the drive joints, push/pull wheels in and out , as in steering motion while spinning wheel and feel if there is anything restricting a smoth movement , hope this helps

never drive, part time 4wd on pavement, unless said pavement
is ice or snow covered.
only AWD allows pavement (tires direct upon) driviing.
part time 4wd is for offroad , off pavement driving,
this is because 4wd has no center differential.

could be rear end is locked up you will have to get another belt try turning wheels by hand if loose see if there are broken bearings anywhere on the drive usally thats the case with the belt bearing goes out and shreds thr belt try those ideals

My scotts rotory spreader will not spin

The design is quite simple with one wheel driving a bevel gear in a gear box. If the wheel turns the axle shaft and the center pin in the spreader with the retainer/cotter pin does not turn it is likely something has failed in the gear box.

If both wheel spins and the axle does not turn than the drive wheel has disengaged the axle shaft and the cotter pin in the drive wheel needs to be replaced.

The compounds used in the spreaders are corrosive. Usually the gears and axle become bound due to corrosion. By oiling the bearings and wiggling the wheels they will free up,

Transfer case on 2006 F150 will engage but no power to front wheels?

SOUNDS LIKE A BAD HUB TRY THIS TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM

Put the transmission in park, set the parking brake and raise the chassis so one of the front wheels is off the ground while the other is still on the ground. When the transfer case is in two-wheel drive, the hubs should be released allowing the wheels to turn freely when spun by hand. If the axle shaft turns when you spin the wheel, it means the hub has not disengaged.
To check engagement, rotate the axle shaft backwards. This should lock the hub. Try turning the wheel by hand again. The axle shaft should now turn with the wheel if the hub is locked. If the hub fails to lock, the hub will have to be disassembled and inspected or replaced.
To check release, hold the axle shaft steady and rotate the wheel backwards. You should hear a click as the locking mechanism slides back out and disengages the hub. Rotate the wheel forward again and it should turn freely.
Another way to check the hubs is to raise the vehicle on a frame contact lift so all four wheels are off the ground. Then start the engine and place the transfer case in four-wheel drive and the transmission in drive. If the front wheels don't turn, look at the front axle shafts. If both shafts are turning, but one wheel is not, the problem is a bad hub on the wheel that isn't turning. If the front driveshafts are not turning when the transfer case is in four-wheel drive, the problem is inside the differential (broken side gears) or the transfer case (broken chain, shift linkage, etc.). If the driveshaft between the transfer case and differential is turning, the problem is in the differential. If the driveshaft is not turning, the vehicle is going to need repairs to the transfer case.

How do you put in 4 wheel drive

Before you start the vehicle lock the hubs in by turning the lock out device in the hub center of each front hub. Now you can start the vehicle and while in park or neutral move the range selector on the floor to the range you would like to use. Most often you will use the 4 wheel high setting. The low setting is only for extremely heavy pulling and will throw you across the seat if you accelerate too hard. Never exceed 45 miles per hour when in 4 wheel drive as you will burn out the transmission or 4X4 transfercase bearings. Now to go back to two wheel drive. Move the floor selecter back to 2 wheel drive setting. Do this with the vehicle in park or neutral to prevent damage to the vehicle. Now you can unlock the hubs by reversing the hub lock out device in the center of the two front hubs. Important little known fact is that you do not want to drive aroind with the hubs constantly locked in as you will lower your fuel mileage and cause extra wear to the axles and associated parts.
