a bit late no?
Ruland why not answer current posts
and not in he dead files.
yah think?
not only that but your posts SLAM all current post down, hidden , is this fun for you doing that dirty deed?
a 4 year old post on USB boots
the PC still has a HP support page read it?
https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/com...
page1 clearly states it does!
ASSUMING the PC runs at all or is not bios password locked up,. these are the steps.
it came with VISTA (era)
the build date is 2009-2011, so is not too old
most PCs that year boot to USB ok.
but how,? well here is the logical list.
1: you must build a bootable usb thumb drive
and test it on a modern PC first to see if it does boot. (first)
2: then boot it on this old CQ60
Hammer the f9 key(at power-on-pressed)
3: next power on and hit the magical HP F9 key,
this pops the magic, F9 boot on the fly window. you see the USB stick there and pick that. next. (must)
next and quickly hammer space bar, and this causes the USB too boot or CD/dvd if used.
if not it will never boot , not "hitting any KEY" now, Space bar is the most easy to hit fast ,IMO. (this step is called El Torito rules!)
there is your answer, and is not told this at this level in the HP books,
fodder for the necro world.
here.
now turbo mode (short steps)
insert usb stick
hammer f9 see menu pick stick
hammer space
USB boots.
these 4 steps, work on all modern HP PCs.
say 2008 up. 1 decade old or newer now.
4 years late you answer? why?
f9 is HP key not F12
necro 4 years.
the key IS F9 not F12
F12 is dell , , Compaq is HP is F9
the manual told you what key it is, and states F9 clear as day. I even read It for OP anon.
1: make a bootable USB first and test it on many PC first to make sure it is good and does work not just one PC , OK>
2: Then power on and under 1 second, hit F9
see your USB stick in the tiny menu?
yes, good, (2b (no)
then click that and the after that quickly tap the space bar, until the USB boots.
4: if this fails try all USB ports on PC.
some PCs the USB3 port are not supported for boot.(10 year old PC this is common then for sure my HP 8540w)
a transitional year for USB3.
5: if step 2b fails upgrade your BIOS.
ask maker of PC how, not here, only there.
What your BIOS can do or not do is not documented by HP. (seem any maker too)
the book says, if things seem wrong here as we write about USB, then the BIOS needs to be upgraded. (cute no?)
HP does not have manuals on all BIOS upgrades. nor do they show each BIOS update page and a file showing what was added , changed or deleted,, also know that on some PCs, for sure w8 and newer,
the BIOS can not be REGRESSED now. (laws)
can go forwards not backwards.
most of the newest BIOS upgrade are the endless bugs in UEFI,(security)
test the USB boot stick on a modern PC
not one running XP,win2k,w98. or older.

Hi,
If the problem is intermittent then the problem could just be
foreign objects like crumbs and hair that's trapped under the keys.
Turn
the laptop off and stand it on it's side with the lid open. Get a soft,
dry paintbrush and brush the keys, gently tap the keyboard in various
places with the back of the paintbrush to help dislodge anything that's
trapped.
Once your satisfied all the keys are clear turn the laptop on and see if it has made any difference.
If it has not then you may need to replace the keyboard.
Good luck.

Boot your laptop. After the laptop shutdow and just at the screen light up, hit f1 or f2 key to enter any setup screen. Then hit F10 to exit. after reboot, your touch pad should come back. It worked for me many times.
