Reset to Factory Settings

• 1 Download the computer software for your Western Digital My Book World Edition if you don't have it installed on your computer. The software can be downloaded on the Western Digital website (see Resources.) Install the software to your computer.
  
• 2 Go to the "Start" menu. Click "All Programs," the "Western Digital" folder and then "My Book World Edition Software" to launch the software.
  
• 3 Switch to the "System" tab. Click either the "Restore Configuration" or "Full Restore" button on the tab, depending on your My Book World Edition drive.
  
• 4 Click the "Browse" button, select the factory settings default restoration point, and then "General Restore" to return the unit to factory settings, or click "Full Restore" and then "Restore Factory Default," again depending on your specific My Book World Edition device. The unit powers off, all data is erased from the hard drive and the My Book is returned to factory settings.
  

I have SeaGate FreeAgent GoFlex 500GB external hard disk and it shows only 230GB. I formatted it many a time but still shows 230 Gb only..Please help me to fix the problem....

if its not detected mean your western digital wd2500jd controller is need to be replace.

try ebay to buy its replacement.

Unfortunately Western Digital say that there is no way to reset the password on their passport drives.

During the boot up process you will see on the screen press delete to enter set up

Press either delete or f2 during the boot up process to enter BIOS scroll down to set user password you can change or remove your password from there

try a different wall oulet. Seems the drive is power supply sensative

Is the drive operating normally except for the lights not working correctly?

do u just wann wipe it out u meen ? then right clik on it in under my computer formatt it cheak quick box for that hard drive

sounds like he compressed his files , reformat drive , reinstall operating system, don't compress files, causes all kinds of problems, you can use a product called disk doctor and reset the hard drive, if format doesn't work
