What is causing a knocking noise when turning TV on?

Well, it was probably not the starter causing the knock. Does it knock while running? I really need more info.. please repost with more details.

Try to disconnect all devices connected to the tv. Perform sound test. I need to know the model of your tv.check the model on back ??

If it doesn't turn to the Face/dash. Then you have some work ahead of you. The motor is turning(causing the knock sound) but the door in the plenum isn't. The gear is what's causing the noise. But I could be wrong. Older cars don't have this. Year make and model please.

more than likely it is the fuser section the gear sometimes breaks and causes the knocking sound.

The knocking noise is actually the water boiling to produce steam.
No different from a pot boiling on the stove. The only difference being the noise is dampened in open environment in the pot, while in the vacuum its a small closed environment with plastic which enhances the noise. There also could some hard water debris within the vacuum chamber which pounces around during the boiling process, such as the same when a water heater becomes old and hasn't been drained. Hard water causes calcium deposits which in turn causes knocking noises in a water heater.

There are many possibilities that can cause car to make noise.

It's actually from where the noise is coming from. Front end or rear end. From engine area or from inside the steering or from brakes.

There is N-number of possibilities for the car to make knocking noise or any other kind of noise.

No if the oil light has flickered you have oil pressure loss some time just belive the sensor do help us out. lifter do not cause oil pressure loss pressure is built in the rotation of the crankshaft. The knock under the plenum will point you to that cylinder that is affected, (main bearing) as for a 1995 the injectors can only cause a misfire but no knocking noise,will they honor the warranty

I have an older 52" sony tv. It wont show a picture & now it makes a popping noise. I also smell smoke? Do you think its repairable?

it is being caused by the flyback tranformer or hi voltage transfomer
if the part is still avail it is cheap but the labor will knock ya down in most case 250 +
