My new Honda (2 years old, and has only been used maybe 15 or 20 times, good gas, changed oil, etc) mower started on first pull out of the box, but after a couple of weeks it would not start without almost disassembling the carb. The throttle plate does not seem to move into the choke position, on a cold start, without a lot of manual work. Once the mower is warmed up it restarts fine. I am too old to be lifting this mower and taking it to a shop with the regularity that it has so far required. Is there a better carb or whatever is required available? I have used Honda mowers in the past a they have always been reliable but this one is testing my patience and my wallet.

No that should just be your transmission for self propelled. Most likely belt driven off motor, with level connected to cable to select drive. . Probabaly a seal leaking on the driveshaft. You could either try and replace seall or replace transmission

You may have to replace the carb. But before you do.Check the the fuel line. There is a small screen in the carb,it may be clogged.Inside the tank is a small cylindrical filter, make sure it is good.Break the fuel line at the in line filter,to make sure gas is getting to there,if it is the problem is in the carb.

you will need to find out if you are getting a spark. generally cheap to fix it you just need to find out which part isnt working first
take aprt the carb and clean the jets inside i have had a few honda carbs had to replace for the same problem
