I want to take the faceplate (kick plate? grlll?) at the bottom of the refrigerator off...........there is a little arm on either side of the grill.......have tried squeezing those and pulling grill off.........grill wont come off. I want to vacuum the coils and check the drip pan. How do I get the grill offr?

is the floor of the freezer a sheet of ice? if so the defrost drain hole is clogged.

Check to see if there is any frost buildup in
the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice
melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if
is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above
items.

This is from the GE Appliance "Knowledge Database" Web site:
Refrigerator - Explanation Of Red Glow
In
a no frost refrigerator, the defrost timer activates defrost heaters in
the evaporator section (rear of freezer) which heat up and melt the
frost off the evaporator coils. This process lasts for approximately
25-45 minutes and usually happens up to twice a day.
During this time, there will be no running sounds, no fan noise, and you may hear water dripping or sizzling as it hits the
heaters. On side by side models, you may even be able to see an orange glow at the bottom of the freezer.
This is normal.

I have the same problem. I called a service rep for G.E. and he said that there are 3 thermodisc
sensors behind the white evaporator cover. He gave me a price to repair that was completly out
of range for the problem. I paid him for his service call and sent him on his way. I then decided to
to order the parts from a factory online parts center at less then half the cost of my estimate not
to mention that when I was ordering the part the Factory emailed me a complete parts breakdown showing the Thermodisc and that my unit only has 1 thermodisc not three installed from the factory.
I ordered 2 one for a backup just in case. I deiced the buildup and installed the disc after 24 hours the refrigerator was working normal for about 4-months. Once again the refrigerator iced up and stopped cooling so I called the factory tech support and they told that it is normal to have some ice on the cover of the evaporator and the thermodisc is at that point supposed to open the cooling circuit to let the unit go into defrost mode and then close again. The Tech said that I had a bad
Thermodisc again so I put the spare one that I ordered in and it also worked for about 3 months
now I have the same problem ????????

If not cooling or signs of not defrosting we will need to check the compressor start components, fan mortors and motherboard. Let me know and I can guide you through this. Sea Breeze
