Hi Beth, they're all useful suggestions. There are all kinds of reasons why your Kindle is freezing.

Check the battery. Check how much memory is available. Check that your software is up to date.

Troubleshooting Frozen Screen, etc.
Press and hold, or slide and hold, the Power button for a full 20 seconds until you see your screen go blank and then start up again.

If a Reboot doesn't fix it, a Reset may be required but NOTE: this will erase program, personal and account information

Make sure you turn your Kindle completely off and on reasonably regularly

  • bhelmick27 May 05, 2014

Also - this shouldn't be happening so call the special number for Kindle support which is (866) 321-8851

  • bhelmick27 May 06, 2014

Peter's comments are better than mine. Try them, but again, if that doesn't do it, call them

I tapped the page to continue reading and a screen popped up explaining how to highlight a sentence; the Kindle froze, charged it for 2 days and still won't work.

Kindle books are stored in the amazon cloud which you can access on amazons website, if all your books are still in the cloud you can put them on the new kindle.

I have a loaned book but am unable to see it on my Kindle list. I have accepted the loaned book but cannot see it on my list

Borrow from a Friend You can borrow a Kindle book from a friend. When the book is available, you will receive an e-mail notification that will allow you to download the book to your Fire tablet, Kindle device, or Kindle reading app.

To download your borrowed book:
  1. Open the e-mail message "A Loaned Book for You."
  2. Click the Get your loaned book now button. Your web browser will automatically launch to Amazon so you can accept the loan.
  3. Sign in to your Amazon account.
    • If you have a Fire tablet, Kindle device, or Kindle reading app, select which device you would like the book to be delivered to, and then click Accept loaned book.
    • If you do not have a Fire tablet, Kindle device, or Kindle reading app, click Accept loaned book and follow the on-screen instructions to download a free Kindle reading app.

When I was purchasing books last night my Kindle froze and would not function. I cut it off to try to reboot and now it won't come on. ???

Try rebooting your Kindle by holding the 'on' switch down for 20 seconds then letting go - it should 'reboot' by itself. You may have to do it a couple of times to reset your Kindle.

If this doesn't work, contact Amazon Customer Service as this is a common problem.

My kindle will not delete a book after I have read it.

If you've already tried deleting the book on the kindle itself, have you tried plugging in the kindle (to your computer), navigating to the Documents folder inside and deleting the actual book file?

How do i mark the books to show that they have been read

Hi,

Unfortunatelly Kindle does not have this feature. But the books you read get pushed down the list.
Or you can delete the book by using these steps:

1. Select a book and click the left arrow on the 5-way button that brings up a delete button the screen.
2. Press the center button and you delete the book.

Another option is to move the book to a collection this is like to archive the books you already read.

GoodLuck!

I just got my kindle today for christmas and i was messing around with it and looking at everything i can do on it. and then i was going to go onto the store and look for some books and i saw that you can...

Don't worry, you cannot fry your Kindle by navigating to any web page.

If you give the on / off switch a short nudge only, it normally goes in and out of stand-by mode. It can be switched on and off by sliding and holding the power switch for a few seconds. The power light behind the switch will blink three times to show you are doing it right. Note also, in order to work properly, the Kindle's battery needs to be charged. Connect your Kindle using the supplied USB cable to a PC for charging. When charging, the power light is orange, when full, the light turns green.

If by accident you set up your Kindle to request a password on start, so no unauthorized people can use it, and you forgot your password, you can contact Kindle support by toll-free phone. They'll help you to reset your password.

The phone number depends on the country of your residence, find the web site HERE to get the phone number that is right for you. Look for the headline "Additional Contact Options".

How to unfreeze kindle screen? my kindle screen has froze

Hey

Well there are a lot of reasons why the Kindle screen freeze.

most of the times it happens when the Kindle is trying to upload some big files like photos, movies, flash etc. in this case all you have to do it to wait and it will un-freeze in couple of seconds.

Another Very common is that the Kindle Memory is full and he can't respond until some of the memory gets free, this usually will happen once you click too many times on the screen, the poor Kindle is overwhelmed with orders and doesn't know what to do, this happens to "newbies" with the kindle.

A lot of these freezing problems can be fixed by resting your Kindle, you can do a Soft reset press the Alt-Shift-R keys at the same time. (Shift is the one that looks like an up arrow.) If that doesn't work, plug your Kindle into the charger and try again.

You can also do a Hard Reset take the cover off the back and insert a paperclip in the little hole. Hold for 10 seconds, you may need to try again with the Kindle plugged into the cradle.

For the Kindle DX Hold the top on/off switch sliding it to the left and keep to the left, hold for 60-80 Sec, Release it. Wait a minute - the DX will flash. Then the screen will go black and then the main Kindle screen (the guy sitting under the tree) will appear and the start up thermometer bar. Once that's completed, the main menu will come on, and your books will be rstored in batches over the next couple of minutes

And of course you can always Call Amazon Customer Service at 1-866-321-8851, 6a-10p PST, 7 days a week

Hope this will be helpful
