download a new driver of your audio device from dell.com.

1. click start > Control Panel > Mouse (with Vista/Win 7 change control panel from category to icons)
2. in Mouse Properties window click Device Settings tab
3. click Enable button for the Synaptics TouchPad
If the TouchPad already enabled and you can't get any reponse from it, then problem due to hardware which requires service by a qualified technician as self-service of the hardware can void your warranty.

If this is physically borken then you will have to get it replaced or a temporary solution is that you can use a usb mouse.
and if it is an issue with just the cursor and the touchpad is intact then you will have to reinstall the drivers and it will work absolutely fine.
you can do it from the dell drivers cd or you can go to the dell support website.
www.support.dell.com click on drivers and downloads and download and install the Dell touchpad/pointing stick drivers.issue will be resolved.

You have had Win 7 for TWO YEARS? Hmmmm well anyway thats the problem. You see Win 7 and games don't MIX, the only way may help is to run in compatibility mode for XP SP2, and Run & Install as Administrator.

Hi! I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop with a touchpad (this model is a bit older than yours). If you want to see the touchpad icon in the System Tray so that you can change the settings and so forth, here is how to do it in Windows XP:

1. Go to Start, then Control Panel, then Mouse.

2. In the Mouse Properties dialog box that pops up, look for a tab called "Dell Touchpad" and click on it to select it.

3. Click on the big picture of the touchpad with the arrow in the middle of the new dialog box that pops up.

4. You should now see a new window that says "Dell Touchpad" pop up.

5. At the bottom of the Dell Touchpad window, click the checkbox that says "Display icon in taskbar" (you should see a checkmark in this box).

6. You should now be able to see the Dell Touchpad icon in your System Tray.

7. If you still do not see the Dell Touchpad icon, or if you do not see a tab that says "Dell Touchpad," then try re-installing the driver for the Dell Touchpad by going to:

Enter the service tag of your laptop, or its model number (Inspiron 1525), then hit the Confirm button. You should see a new window pop up that shows all the compatible drivers for your laptop. The one you will need in this case is under the section "Input Device Drivers." Look for the driver for the Dell Touchpad, download it, and then install it, if necessary.

Also, please make sure that you can see all the icons in your System Tray. If you can't, then try clicking on the little left-facing arrow in the System Tray, which will expand the System Tray to show all the icons there, and then you should be able to see the missing Dell Touchpad Icon.

You will need to go to www.support.dell.com there you will have to download the corect drivers from the touchpad,as it would seem that you have a driver problem.If not you might have to replace the palmrest.

Follow this simple Installation step to downgrade Windows Vista to Windows XP.
