Pride Legend XL Heavy-Duty 4 Wheel Scooter Logo
Robert Pelland Posted on May 02, 2014

Tim, the batteries on my Legend XL gave out last Fall, so I replaced them with two new recommended batteries, and now it will only run in top speed for the first hundred feet, then it slows down to a

After battery replacement drives normal speed for only the first 50 feet, then down to a crawl. Had batteries double checked, they were fine. Recharge then lasts only ten minutes. Thank you for the time you will take, to address my concerns

If it is actually speed pot related, then removing the speed pot
and spraying down the shaft of the speed pot (from the top)
with electronic contact cleaner, may help to make clean
the pot resistive element and that should fix that. If it's
not a speed pot issue and happened after replacement of
the batteries, assuming they are 35/37 AH AGM batteries,
check the batteries for current delivery at the rated current.
It could be just a battery that is not providing the rated current
to the motor after 50 feet.

Had a similar problem with my shoprider te888's there are 2 possible solutions that I have found.
1. dirt had been picked up in the pad that acts as a brake, causeing the motor to drag and speed up, found this after almost burning my hand on end of motor with brake. disassembling the brake and cleaning with an alchohol soultion fixed this one.
2. Loose wire to battery post, or corrosion on battery connectors can cause this too. found loose terminal on battery by tightening nut where wire attached.drove me nuts for days till I decided to tighten with wrench rather than finger tight... On my scooter it would slow down do to excessive current draw because of bad connection and controller would shutdown, which meant ubrut stop. Showed up mainly when climbing long grade up driveway.
hope this helps

SOURCE: When moving at top speed, my scooter hesitates at

hi, that is a textbook problem related to the speed controller pot,
the pot is attached to the lever you move to go forward etc,

to be 100% certain trying moving the lever in the upwards direction while gong forward ? does it speed up ,a new speed pot required.

GeWiz.

SOURCE: I HAVE A CELEBRITY DX SCOOTER,

Hi John.
The problem could be a worn throttle pot ( wig wag ). Next time you are driving the scooter, try moving the ends of the speed lever slowly up and down, instead of in or out as you normally use it. If the throttle pot is worn, moving the lever this way will make the machine speed up or slow down.
Another cause might be a faulty battery lead connector or a faulty motor connector.
Good luck. Neil.

How do i change my igniton switch in my 94 acura legend?

To replace ignition switch on 94 legend, first secure the car on a level parking surface, engage parking brake, chock wheels for added safety. Disarm airbags, be aware of a coded radio / sound system, ensure that the 'disarming' code is available or it may be very difficult to reset the radio. Disconnect the Neg. battery cable from the battery post. Remove lower cover panel from lower dash on driver's side. Remove electrical connector from ignition switch. Ignition key must be used to turn cylinder from 'O' to 'I' when necessary to unlock cylinder from column (Steering-Lock Pawl). Remove 2 bolt / fasteners which hold ignition switch in place - it may be necessary to cut a grove into the top of each fastener with a hack-saw or high-speed-cut-off tool if fasteners are the original round-head type. Sometimes simply trying a good pair of locking-pliers with a tight grip will be able to loosten the bolts enough to remove them. Once the old ignition cylinder is removed, clean inside the cylinder opening, install the new cylinder & secure all wiring which was removed, secure switch with new bolts, test switch, replace covers & last of all, reinstall battery connection.

I have a 2002four wheel Legend Mobility scooter.

Hi. A lot of scooters have a seperate switch to select a high or low speed setting.
This switch is sometimes labeled indoor/ outdoor.
I have had a few scooters with a similar fault, and the wires that connect to the high/low switch have broken of the terminals on the rear of the switch.
It could also be a faulty speed control pot.
Check these and good luck. Neil.

Will not turn on

I contacted Garmin and they had me remove the microchip inside and see if that would fix the problem. It did not. So they instructed me to send it back in for repair. They gave me a return number and then ended up replacing the unit with a new one. My unit was under a year old so it was no charge.
