Registering a Gigaset AL185 handset

The handset is either too far from the base or it needs to be registered. The instructions are in the manual.

You can try to put the base in registering mode by using the web interface. Check your base user manual for further details.

The other plausible reason: Have you checked the DECT frequency range operation? My base was bought in Europe (1880~1900MHz) and the handset was bought in USA (1920~1930Mhz). So they are incompatible. :-(

Thank you for these instructions. I have Siemens geigaset A120 with three handsets and one of the handsets stopped working about a year ago and my previous tries att registering it at the base station had failed and I was about to give up and buy a new set for 80 Euro, but I decided to give i one more try at registering and it worked the third time around. So do not give up. When one your hand sets stops working (no dial tone and can not call from it) try re registering as described above.

To register the Gigaset handset, you need to have the handset near the base. Press and hold the Register/Paging button on the base for 3+ seconds (it's hidden by the handset when on the base). A shorter press of the button will activate the Paging feature. Then within 60 seconds of pressing the Register button on the base, press Menu and select Settings. Press OK and go to Handset. Press OK and then select Register HS. Enter the base PIN (default is 0000) and then press OK. (Use the up/down arrows to navigate the menus.) You will see Registering flash on the display of the handset for approximately 1 minute while the registration is processed.

press R button in your handset and you will get dial tone then enter your extension no.

Thats because there are too many handsets registered to base OR it can't find the base. Did you set it to register then pressed the little tab in on the bottom of the base? You have to hold tab down and keep phone close to base (a foot or so). If handset goes out of reg mode, you have to put it back in, then quickly press base tab down again before it stops.

If you had a storm, and the only handset that works shows line in use, then your base has gone bad and needs repair. The reason the phones are flashing base 1 or something to that effect is because they don't see the base anymore, which typically means no phones will see your base, so its odd that one phone is actually seeing the base. Either way, you can try re-registering the phones to the base, but if you get the line in use after they register (if they will register), then your base is bad. To register your handset to that base station, you must put the base station in registration mode at the same time you put the handset in registration mode. This is how you do it. At the handset you push OK when it asks you to register. If it asks you for the pin enter 0000 (factory pin) and push OK. The handset should say "registering base 1". Then at the base press the page/reg key down until it flashes (its to the immediate right of the cradle where you rest the handset for charging). That puts the base in registration mode and now its looking for the handset and vise versa. Now watch your handsets display. If it asks to to select an intercom number, then push ok and your done. If it says "invalid pin" then you need to reset your pin on your base (thats a different problem see below). If the handset times out and never registers, you need to repeat the process a couple times, you may have a bad base or it needs to be defaulted. If you need to default your pin, you can do so but it will default the base station to factory settings. To do so remove the power from your base, hold your page/registration key down, and apply power back to the base. Count to 15, then let off the key. Turn off the power, count to five, then apply power again and follow the steps again to register the handset and you will need to reregister every handset that was previously running on it.

You need to register the handset to your base. Its easy, but first you need to clear the setting on the handset. Do this by pushing Menu, scroll to base system settings, push OK, then scroll to Base station 1, push OK, then scroll down to deregister, push OK twice, then press End. The handset should now say "please register", of which you can press OK, enter your pin or 0000 and the display should be flashing "registering base station 1". Now quickly, at your base push Menu, scroll forward to system settings, push select, enter your pin or 0000, then select. Push select again and the display should say "registering HS". Now, both displays (base and handset should say registering), keep your eyes on your handset display, once it "shakes hands" with the base it will prompt you to select an intercom number, you can just push OK.
