SOURCE: IPOD music list gray in ITUNES

This seems to be a common problem among certain users. Here is an explanation of why it occurs as well as a solution:

The songs displayed on the iPod "playlist" is merely a list, not a shortcut to the file. Basically, it is to show you what is on your iPod, and you cannot move the songs because you aren't manually syncing your iPod.

The solution to this is simple, as much of a pain as it might be: on the iPod screen, where the iPod's name is displayed as well as firmware version etc. there should be a box in the lower right hand corner that says "sync automatically". Once unchecked, you will be able to play and remove songs one by one, instead of iTunes combining them into a text list.

Hope this helps.

You can try an ipod ripping program like iPodRip ( http://www.ipodrip.net/ ) to rip, or copy, all of your music off your ipod shuffle onto your new laptop.

SOURCE: how do i download from windows media player library to ipod

be prepared to wait for a long time while the files are transferring and being converted. Open itunes, click on file then click on add folder to library. Browse to find your music folder, normally in my document, my music and select the folder my music by clicking on it once only, then click on ok. Your files will start to transfer and be converted by itunes. When i converted my library from media player it took a few hours to complete, so you need to be patient. Don't forget to only click on 'my music' folder once, you do not wantt do double click it because it will open the folder up, and if you want to transfer all of your music then you will only need to click on the folder once to select the whole folder.

I hope this helps
If it does not then let me know what happened

Delete Duplicates Songs on iTunes, Repair Music Info on Mac

If your iTunes application on Mac have updated to Version 11+, you can use the method Apple supported to show all duplicate items in your iTunes library. From the menu at the top of your computer screen, choose View > Show Duplicate Items. And then manually delete unwanted ones. Or if you are a Windows user, Hold down the Control and B keys on your keyboard to open the iTunes menu bar. Choose View > Show Duplicate Items.

Matches are based on the song name and artist. If you have multiple versions of the same song (for example, live and studio versions, or versions from different albums), hold the Alt or Option key (Mac) or the Shift key (Windows) and choose View > Show Exact Duplicate Items. This will show only the duplicate songs that have the same name, artist, and album. The information in the other columns, such as Time, Release Date, or Genre, can also help you determine which item to keep and which to remove. For example, the Plays column shows which version of the song you've listened to more.

Moving the iTunes Music Files to a Different Hard Disk/Folder If you are low on...

Moving the iTunes Music Files to a Different Hard Disk/Folder

If you are low on disk space in your iTunes folder then you can move these music files to another hard drive and keep your music library in tact without the need to create your music library again.

If you want to transfer your iTunes to an external USB hard drive, make sure that it is powered up and connected to your computer before opening iTunes.
Opened iTunes, click Edit and then Preferences. Click the Advanced tab.
Make sure the Keep iTunes Media folder organized checkbox is checked, and click Change.

Then select the location where you would like to move your files to. Click Select the Hard Drive and Folder or OK once you’re done.

The files will not move into their new positions by themselves –To do this – click File, Library and Organize Library. Check Consolidate Files.

When this process has been completed, go to the new location of your iTunes media and check the music files to see if they have migrated across correctly. Also play one or more tunes to test the music files.

The redundant iTunes music files can now be deleted from the original iTune location (C:\Documents and Settings\…..…\My Documents\My Music\iTunes). Delete everything from iTunes there except files titled iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml. These are still needed.

I have a new I mac computer I tunes is all ready loaded but how do I download my music library to this computer ?? Thanks Bill

Depending on the size of the existing library, you can do it manually by downloading all of those files to your iMac over a network (this may take some time, depending on how much music you have) Then:
1. Launch iTunes
2. Select the iTunes drop down menu at the top of the screen
3. Select "Preferences".
4. Select "Advanced" to the far right of the window
The first input field allows you to specify the folder that iTunes uses for your music. Change this to match the location of your newly transferred music.
5. Uncheck the box that reads "Copy files to itunes Media folder when adding to library"
6. Select "OK" in the bottom right corner of this window.
7. Press command (apple) and "O", iTunes will open a window allowing you to add songs to your library. Select the folder where you have just located all of your music, then select "Open" in the bottom right corner of the window. It is not necessary to individually select each song, just the main file.
ITunes will now import your music into its library. This may take a few minutes, depending on the amount of music.

Have downloaded limewire to itunes library ipod is

You are going to want to add those files to your itunes library... The easiest way is to close out your limewire program... Make sure it is closed becuase it usaully starts up when the computer is on. In the tool bar you want to right click on the limewire icon and select exit. If you dont close the program some of the files are still being shared on the network. Now you will need to locate where the files were saved on your computer. They are usually located under My Documents and there should be a limewire folder. If this is the case then problem solved. Go to your I tunes and choose add file or folder to library ... a browser will open up go to my documents find the limewire folder and add it ...(you do this by clicking on it) then press the add button... this will pull your music into your itunes library. Be aware that some of the files you may have downloaded will be in different formats that itunes should convert. From here you can convert these to AAC format or leave them as Mp3. The AAC format is what apple uses as its format. If you convert them to AAC they will stay in your library no matter what you do with the original files. Before converting you might want to change your settings ... go to edit... prefrences...under general there is an import tab click on this and you can control the qaulity of the file... Choose the highest quality 320kbs... it will give you a larger file but the file will be cleaner. hope this helps
