How close were you to the base unit when you recorded the message? The manual suggests 9 inches from your mouth to the mic on the unit. Also speak loudly when you make the recording. Yes, you can re-record the message. In fact, you can record two messages and use whichever one fits your immediate circumstances.

Recording the Outgoing Announcement

For best results when recording, you should be about nine inches from the microphone,

and eliminate as much background noise as possible.

1. Make sure the answering system is On2. Press and hold the announce button on the base.

3. Begin speaking after you hear the beep.

4. Release the button when you finish your announcement.

NOTE: If you choose not to record an outgoing announcement, a default

announcement plays instead. To return to the default announcement after

you have recorded your own outgoing announcement, press the announce

button and release it when you hear the beep.

Sample Outgoing Announcement

"Hi, this is (use your name here), I can't answer the phone right now, so

please leave your name, number and a brief message after the tone, and
I'll get back to you. Th anks.

I am trying to record my personal greeting on my message machine with the DECT 6.0...can you please explain to me how I can record my greetings?

Which model phone do you have? For the CL82509 and related DECT 6.0, you need to set the outgoing message from the handset when the answering machine is on. (It can be turned on from the handset).

For the outgoing message: with the handset in Idle mode, press Menu/Select. Use the up (Dir) and down (CID) arrows to highlight Ans Sys Setup. Then press Menu/Select. Use the same arrow keys to select Announcement and press Menu/Select again. Press 7 to record a new announcement. At the tone, speak your message clearly then press 5 when you have ended the message. The message will play back.

This model's manual is available here: http://att.vtp-media.com/ecp/documents/product_Product/132/UserManual/5995/cl82509_manual_USA_i6.pdf . See page 15 to set the answering system outgoing message. (This is different than Voicemail. To set up Voicemail, you will need to see your telephone provider's documentation.)

Most AT&T phone manuals are available here: http://telephones.att.com/att/index.cfm/product-support/manuals/ .

I hope this helps.

GE MODEL 28112 DECT 6.0 CORDLESS PHONE

I contacted GE today and they told me how to get the caller ID to work on the additional handsets. You must follow these steps in the exact order given.

#1 - unplug the base phone
#2 - unplug the telephone line from the base phone
#3 - remove the battery packs from the phones
#4 - wait 10 minutes.

reverse the order when assembling. Put battery packs in phones, put the telephone line back in the base phone and lastly plug all phones back in. It takes about another 10 minutes after that before all phones start recognizing caller ID but it now works fine.
