Question about Pride Legend XL Heavy-Duty 4 Wheel Scooter

1 Answer

Scooter electronic brake doesn`t seem to work

The problem with the roll back brake not engaging is somehow associated with the fact that when I turn the key on, the LED keeps flashing but not with any flash code. It will not move backwards and after considerable delay will move forward and once it moves forward, it will then move backward. When the LED stops flashing, there is a relay click and from then it`s fine. When stopped on an incline with speed pot at zero, the scooter rolls backwards on me. The only way I can stop it from rolling is to turn the key off.

SOURCE: Pride Legend 3-wheel scooter. I

Hi,

This problem can be caused by a faulty signal from the throttle lever to the processor due to an intermittent failure of the throttle lever or the temperature switch for the motor is showing an "over heat " condition & the processor shuts down the system , until the switch is cycled. This will need to be checked & tested by a technician to verify the problem for repair.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

SOURCE: I have a Pride Legnd..the scooter started loseing

hi, first you need to check the connections to the batteries then to the motor controller, and don't dismiss the speed pot, disconnect the speed pot and try a normal 5K pot inplace of it, if the scooters responds you find the problem just a case of getting the right speed pot. Check the freewheel switch, normally it located on the motor side.

My quingo plus does not move either forward or back but electrics seem ok

Hi there sorry to hear your scooters got problems, one or two things could be wrong,

1 make sure the brake lever is engaged properly this will be located at the rear end of the scooter.
2 if the above does not work you could have a problem with the brake itself.
3 does the scooter beep when you turn it on or when you engage the wigwag in the forward motion.
4 if you still cannot get it going give me a call

How do I get my gogo elite traveler plus hd to engage the brake when parked on an incline?

Hi Scott, the brake itself could be failing or the other issue could be the controller itself or simply a bad connection (hopefully), so check the connections from the brake to the controller

Rally scooter parts

The click sound is likely the electric brake releasing. If the brake is working and the scooter wont roll, then you engage it and you can push the scooter then you have a motor or motor wiring problem.
The Pride Rally is an older model whose electronics do not verify the motor is working prior to allowing the scooter to start. Please disconnect the motor wiring and check the motor's electrical resistance. It should read less than 3 ohms on a meter. If it doesn't, pull, clean and or replace the motor brushes if its a serviceable unit. If not - you may need a new motor - especially if the reading of the motor winding is over 3 ohms.

Celebrityx scooter blinks 5 pause 5 everytime i turn key on

Either your parking brake is engaged or if your scooter is more like mine i have a Rascal 600t it gives a code 5 service code when it thinks its in free wheel. The freewheel mechanism is located on the trans-axle which if you go outside across grass it gets wet. This device doesn't like moister and will get stiff will partially engage or disengage. In that mechanism there is a micro-switch which if the lever when slipped into the engaged position doesn't go all the way to the seated position the switch will see the mechanism as being disengaged [in free wheel] and will inhibit the motor from running. I lubricate the entire assembly with pure silicon spray oil,WARNING, do not use WD-40, It will eat some plastics. After lubricating the lever should move smoothly. I have to lub my scooter about once a month in the winter.

Now if this doesn't work check the connector that are all the wires are connected. Disconnect the connector check the pins are ok reconnect check to see if your still getting the failure. If you are still getting this problem do continuity checks on the wiring. You will need a multimeter only $9
http://www.amazon.com/Mastech-YG188-Pocket-size-analog-multimeter/dp/B00064CH6A/ref=sr_1_8?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1339024102&sr=1-8 Check the switch in the freewheel assembly. Select ohms the highest scale, short the leads together, zero the meter by turning the zero adjust knob. There is only one wire we are interested in. On some scooters you can visually see the switch and the wire running from it. The wire usually goes to a spade connector. Disconnect the spade connector put a probe on that connector leading to the switch. Disconnect the battery put other probe on the positive side of the terminals that were connected to the battery not to the battery it side.Work the switch does the meter needle deflect to zero, no, try the negative side. Does the meter deflect, no, put the probes directly on the switch terminals, does the switch.when worked now cause the meter to deflect, no, replace switch, yes, the problem is in the harness, don't panic, use can use that meter to trace the wire through the harness. Wiggling wires and flexing connectors usually makes the meter flick at some point. Thats how i do it i'm never without my trusty meter. My scooter a Rascal are notorious for having problems of this type my mid-frame harness fell apart in the middle of a six lane intersection, the scooter simply locks up tight .I can do nothing but sit in the middle of this huge intersection. People try to move me but the scooters wheels are locked, my illness makes it so i can't communicate with people, it was a mess. So i modified the connector so its no longer a latch type connector. I drilled it for a quick pin which is much stronger than what its using now. Hope this helps

In Drive position the wheels are locked and in neutral the wheels remain locked and will not spin or free wheel. In drive with the battery in the unit just clicks but does not move, everything works such...

I would suspect that the brake is not releasing causing your problem. When you place the handle in freewheel and you can't push the scooter easily then the brake pad is stuck on the motor housing. If you are able remove the seat and back cover remove the drive wheel on the side of the scooter nearest the freewheel lever usually the right side. you should be able to see the brake attached to the end of the motor with 3 or 4 hex head screws. take the brake off the end of the motor and carefully leave the wiring attached ( don't break or remove the wires going to the brake or the scooter will not run at all) remove the brake and place or tie it up where it won't fall or drag. Put the drive wheel back on and turn the scooter on and see if it will now move. If it moves like it should you will have to replace the brake. You can drive the scooter like this but remember you do not have brakes so the scooter can roll backwards or forward when not on and especially on ramps Hope this helps

I have a celebrity scooter that powers up great and every thing seems to operate properly except it will not go forward or backward. It makes no sound when engaging thumb switch.

Make sure the drive lever/freewheel brake is engaged. Usually it is on the lower back bottom of the scooter or check your owner's manual.
Good luck!

Typically this signals the free wheel brake lever is engaged. Turn your scooter off, then push the brake lever (the handle sticking out the top of the scooter back end) completely forward. Turn scooter back on.

My farther as just bought a gainsbough 4 wheel

No, it means the Electro Brake is not engaging 100%,

Check the motor under the seat, now you will see two thick wires come from the motor , Red & Black if you look to the side of the motor you should see two thinner wires leading to the side of the motor , those are the brake power leads, (depending on Model) , has the brake seized ? or are the wires not making a good connection, these wire should lead back to the motor controller , normally a black or blue box, that is the motor controller , check connections, depending again on brand and model.
