How do I convert decimals to fractions on the TI Math Explorer (No numbers associated with it - i.e. TI - 15)?

Calculators convert fractions to decimals easily, but do not convert decimals to fractions, despite the dual arrows on the FD button which indicates it should go in either direction.

The way it works is as follow. If a result is displayed as a fraction you can convert it to its decimal representation. If you do nothing after the conversion, you can revert the decimal representation to the fraction.

SOURCE: How do you convert decimal complex numbers in TI-84 (OS 2.53) to fractions?

I answered a similar question not long ago and here is what I wrote:

Not quite true for OS 2.56 MP for the TINspire with Ti84 keyboard. To convert a complex decimal value, that you just calculated, into a fraction use the command Math [1:>Frac] and it will convert the value to complex fractions
See below.

I suggest you upgrade the OS to version 2.55 MP.

How do you convert an answer in the form of a decimal into a fraction?

The TI-83 can only convert a decimal to a fraction if the denominator has no more than three digits.

Try . 5 MATH FRAC
Does that give you 1/2?

How can i turn decimals into fractions?

To convert decimals into fractions in a TI-15 calculator you should do the following:

1) Enter the decimal number you wish to convert, for example: 0.075 and press ENTER.

2) Press the F<-->D button

It also works the other way around. There is a great Power Point presentation that resumes the basic operations of this particular calculator at NING published by EMRTs

How do I get a fraction as an answer instead of a decimal?

The TI-83 can only convert a small range of numbers to a fraction. To try so, use the >Frac function on the MATH menu. Press MATH 1 to invoke it.

On other models of texas instrument calculators they have a button to do a fraction does the ti-84 plus have that?

Hello,
Yes it can do fractions although it does not have a specific key.
If you want to enter a fraction and keep it in fraction form, though reduced to its simplest expression use [MATH][1:->Frac] [ENTER]
Exemple:
27/48 [MATH][1:->Frac][ENTER] displays the reduced form 9/16.
To convert a decimal number into a fraction (with the inherent loss of precision) press [MAT][1:->Frac][ENTER]
Use [MAT][2:->Dec] to convert to decimal, but this is done by default.
Hope it helps.

Where is the fraction button on the ti 83 plus cac. look like

Hello,
There is no fraction button. Any division of two integers you do is represented as a decimal number. If you want your fraction to remain a fraction you enter it as follows
7[ / ] 19 [ MATH][1:ToFrac] [=] displays 7/19
If you want to convert a decimal number into a proper fraction press [MATH][1:ToFrac] .
Exemple 7/19 [ENTER] gives .36842105. If without doing anything else, you press [MATH][1:ToFrac] you recover 7/19.
There are limitations related to the number of decimal digits in the floating point number.
.3684 [MATH][1:ToFrac][=] gives 921/2500 but
.36842 [MATH][1:ToFrac][=] gives .36842 : it is not converted to fraction.

Hope it helps

HOW TO INTER FRACTION ON A TI-83

Hello,
Once you enter a fraction the calculator calculates it and displays a decimal result. So basically you cannot do fraction manipulations. However you can convert a decimal result into a fraction. To do the conversion, you enter the decimal number then you Press [MATH] and [1]. ( -->Frac) The number will be converted.
Similarly you can enter a fraction to a decimal number (-->Dec)
[MATH] [2:] [ENTER]. But I see no point in doing that, because any fraction entered is displayed as a decimal number.

Hope it helps
