Rear Surrounds are not supported on this unit, they would be the 6th and 7th channels in a 7.1 rig. I think you mean Surrounds (channels 4 and 5 in a 5.1 rig).

Lets ponder: How is there any relationship between Surrounds and your separately-amplified Subwoofer? I don't see it, unless you inadvertently chose OFF for the Sub definition when you were in the Speaker selection menus adding the Surrounds. Look again.

Check all the speaker settings very carefully - page 14 in the manual solved the problem for me when i changed my old floorstanders to small speakers i didn't realise I had to tell the receiver they were small speakers for the sub to work. This is because otherwise it tries to send the bass to your speakers because it thinks they can handle it. Hope this helps.

Power sub woofer is not working on my pioneer vsx-81txv everything is working all the speakers except the power sub connection at the back all i can hear is the hissing sound when i try to connect the sub...

Hissing? How loud? A sub isn't even capable of making high frequency sounds at normal volumes.

The Pioneer manual would tell you how to enable and test the subwoofer output.

How to hook it up with sub dvd

Not sure what a "sub dvd' is but here's the manual. The Subwoofer Pre Out would provide a Line Level feed for a powered subwoofer, once it is configured to do so.

Sub wont work, all connectionsgood, cable good

If your front speakers are defined as small, the sub is locked to ON.

My $.02 regarding speaker size selection in this context. Generally speaking, if a speaker can adequately handle real bass, regardless of its apparent woofer size (like many Bose systems), I define it as Large and I also define the Sub as Plus so Low Frequencies will still be sent to the channel(s) they belong to along with the sub for those real deep tones.

Sub woofer

Hello,
The subwoofer is totally independent from your Pioneer VSX-D412. You can check if it works like you did with a finger on the hot point of the RCA cable (not very good test, as you will hear noise and can't say if that means it works OK) or better connect a known receiver to the speaker connections in the sub and test to see if it’s working properly.
Regarding the receiver, you may not have enabled the VSX to output to the sub. Read the manual on how to check for that. Only Dolby Digital 5.1 signals will allow the sub out, in a receiver of this level. It normally will not let you use the sub in stereo mode. Some more complex units will allow you that, but I believe not this model.
Good luck
