1.Position the printer near your wireless network's router. Plug an Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on the back end of the printer. Run the other end to any of the numbered ports on the back side of the router. Press the "Print Report Page" button on the printer.

2.Navigate to the setup page listed on the report page and click the tab labeled "Networking."

3.Scroll to the "Connections" heading and click "Wireless." Navigate to the tab labeled "Wireless Setup." Click the "Start Wizard" button.

4. Follow the prompts to connect the HP 1012 to your wireless network. Click "Finish" and close the browser.

5.Open the "Start" menu and navigate to "Network." Choose the "Add a Printer" option. Click "Add a network printer."

6. Click "HP Laserjet 1012" and choose "Next" and "Finish" to access the printer through your computer's wireless connection. Repeat the process of adding the printer on any other computers on the wireless network.

Please follow these steps and let me know if it works or not

first disconnect the unit from the computer then reset it on your computer go to control panel and add remove files and click on your printer file and select updat/repair but not remove and that will reload your software. reboot and connect your printer and start the test..that may over power the problem, if not try to reload just the driver

dark background usually means the High Voltage Power Supply is malfunctioning.
replacement only.

in the software there should be an option to "clean heads"
if you click on it it will print a test page off.
it should work better.

It should be able to print one:
1: try pressing and holding the button for 4+ seconds
2: power off ... press and hold the button while powering on and wait until it prints the test page.

Go to the HP website and make sure you have the latest drivers installed. You should be able to let the computer install the drivers automatically once you download them. Also download any other additional software that comes with the printer. Sometimes special print jobs rely on these extra programs.

You need to print the configuration page :

=> Power on the printer and makes sure it comes to the 'Ready' state.
=> Press and hold the Go button between 5 and 10 seconds until the attention and ready lights flash.
=> Release the button. If you held the button down for too long it would flash the Attention LED.
=> Press and release the Job cancel button to start all over again if you held the button down for too long.

I ran the hp toolbox "cleaning" mode too and it did not help the problem at all. I still have a dark smear concentrated in the middle of the page, and ghost images repeated lighter all the way down the page.

my 1012 printer prints only COMPLETE black pages was OK yesterday but this morning it print only full black pages
the cartridge is a HP 12A original
