Do I need to download something else?

I am using a Windows 8 laptop and the CD for my Canon PowerShot S3 IS is outdated. I went on the Canon website and downloaded ImageBrowser EX for Windows 8. I'm trying to download my images by connecting the camera to the USB port, but I'm not given the option to do this via ImageBrowser.

SOURCE: Unable to download through usb

I had the same problem and realized that my computer wasn't recognizing my camera. I went through my device manager and looked under portable devices, I could see that my camera had an error in its driver, so I right clicked on my camera and uninstalled the driver for my camera, and unplugged and plugged my camera back in. It instantly recognized my camera and reinstalled the driver.

SOURCE: Canon zoombrowser Ex downloading problem

Try updating the Zoombrowser software.

If you have a connection to the camera, go into my computer and get images directly off the camera using scanner and camera wizard, microsoft's default program. This will at least allow you to transfer your images until you can resolve the software problem.

If you have no connection to the camera via your computer, you need to try some other troubleshooting steps to get a connection. I will post those below in the next post.

SOURCE: Computer not recognizing my camera when connected

Most of the issues can be solved by either reinstalling the software or by disconnecting and reconnecting the device.
In this case we can close in on three solutions
1) The USB drive in the system is not functioning. Try connecting any other USB devices to the same USB port and check whether it works or not. If the other device works well then it could be a problem with the data cable or with the port in the camera (usually firewire)

2) The data cable used to transfer data might have become faulty.Try using another data cable if possible and still the same issue continues then try connecting another camera to the system and if the other camera gets detected then the problem must be with the camera.

3) Try connecting the same camera to another system and see whether the camera gets detected. If no, then the port in the camera is defective.

After this we can close in on which could be faulty. data cable / Computer / Camera.

SOURCE: Canon zoombrowser Ex downloading problem

The sd1000 manual says that you will get this error when you have too many pictures on your memory card (aprox 1000). I am not sure how many I had on my 2GB card but it was a lot. I deleted about 50 - 100 pictures and then it started working again and the new pictures downloaded to the computer.

My camera will download images to my computer

And if it does not want to download the pictures, just install Zoombrowser EX. You still can download this software from the Canon website. The drivers you need, are also there.
Without the appropriate software, no computer knows what you are connecting. We are so used to smart phones and tablets that we think all things are detected correct when connected. In the days the Powershot S3 computers still needed drivers and software. Most computers still do.

I have canon powershot SX10 IS and need the cd rom. can this be purchased

Do you really need the Canon software?

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

Canon PowerShot S3 IS & Windows 7

This is correct. The S3 is discovered by windows 7 and will allow download of pictures by Windows Picture download. The Canon Utilities software - Zoombrowser - will not work with windows 7 as the software cannot detect the Camera via Windows 7.. Also, Camera window will not start, if using the PC/laptop for remote image recording. If you virtualise XP within Windows 7 this still will not work. The only solution at the moment, if you are deperate, like I was (as I use the Remote Capture process a lot), is to either stick with Win Xp or Dual boot XP on a smaller partition.

Unable to download Canon S3 IS on new hp, update software.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader. If your computer doesn't have a built-in card reader then you can buy an inexpensive reader that connects to your USB port. This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Camera Software

Hey EGrett,
I am providing a link below to the drivers for your camera. The manufacturer does not show a download of the software available for your operating system, but you could probably get a copy of it by calling Canon. I hope this helps!

Software not being recognized

The software on the CD is slightly outdated. Here is the driver download page for your camera: http://alpha02.c-wss.com/inc/ApplServlet?RQF=MENU&RQS=WWUCA910&LA=1187365946277&SV=WWUCA1351&TRF=MAIN You probably don't need the drivers, but they're there if you do need them. What you do need is "ZoomBrowser EX5.8b Updater for Windows" Although it says it's an updater, you can use it even if you aren't updating anything. This includes CameraWindow, and all the software that would be on your CD.
