First empty the machine by lowering the hose at the rear to ground level into a container. Take off the white plastic cover on rear at bottom. You will see black rubber hose connected to barrel of machine in right hand corner. Undo the silver screw on the band securing the hose. (Biggest band). You can now pull the hose down to reveal a "table tennis like" ball. Lift it out carefully and you will probably find an obstruction like a coin or similar. I found a hairgrip but it was enough to stop the ball functioning. DO NOT TAKE OFF THE WHITE HOSE CLIPS
Further to my comments re clearing scrap from table tennis ball after code F4. Machine started ok but then F5 came up. Had to take the pump off and apart to reveal broken hairclip actually seized in pump. If you are handy at all this is simplicity itself.
Slide pump to left and lift and it comes clear. Take off 2 black hoses only where connected to main machine. Pull off electrical connection. Pump and hoses lift out easily. 3 screws open the pump. Clean any obstruction and reassemble. A 30 minute operation.
This worked perfectly for me who is a complete novice at these things. Very Simple to do and took about 20mins. Found about a fiver in change and a few hair bobbles in there :-)

Washing machine (WD860) displays error message F-04 when trying to operate machine. Door closes and opens okay but machine will not start cycle.
Press "end of cycle" button; wait for 2 minutes or until you hear a distinct click. The door is free to be opened. Till then do not try to open door, ie, dont force it, you will damage the door lock.
My daughter has a Hotpoint Ultima Washing Machine Model WT741
It starts to wash then stops displaying Fault code F05. What is the cause please?
I've had a engineer out to look at my F-05 problem. He told me the code indicates a pump problem. In my case one of my kids chains had blocked the pump, removed it and worked fine.
Hi all, I've got the same problem with my WD860 (cycles failing on F-05 and occasionally F-04). I took the back off to follow the advice already given, but I'm not sure that what I saw tallies up with the advice offered above. There was only one (silver) jubilee clip, and it wasn't readily accessible, the other clips were all plastic things that looked breakable. I wasn't sure what pipe I was meant to be removing from where in order to get at the ping-pong ball. I took a snapshot of what I could see and it's here if anyone would like to take a look and offer some advice.
