Good chance that the needle bar bearing has siezed up or that the spring which pulls the needle bar back to centre has broken. If you are mechanically minded you should be able to remove the top cover and take a look down onto the bearing. Two screws hold the top cover down and you need to wiggle it around a bit to the left to get it off past the bobbin winder, then tip it backwards around the carry handle. Some of the later Air electronics have a circlip on the left handle side which just slides off easily so you can remove the carry handle and then get the top cover off fully. To check the spring first, set the machine stitch width to 4 and select the zig zag stitch on the stitch selector. Make sure the needle bar is in its highest position, now push it to the right and release, it should move smoothly back to the left if the spring is working.
If the spring is there and the bearing is just gunked up, then you can work it free with some TriFlow oil, a long q tip or eyedropper to apply and lots of patience and careful working of the needle bar back and forward to free up its movement. Sometimes a bit of heat from a hairdryer will help this too, just be careful not to apply it to any plastic components, shield them.

it sounds like the needle hook timing is out. You need to get the needle in the lowest position and measure the gap from the needle to the hook point on the bobbin shuttle. It should be 1/4". You will need to remove the foot and foot plate to be able to see. I use a 1/4" drill bit as a gauge. If you need to adjust it, you will need to remove the free arm cover to the right of the foot and loosen the 2 allen head screws that hold the drive gear. Adjust the gap, tighten the screws and retry. Usually if the needle catches the thread to early, it will make a bad stitch and the upper thread will break. If it catches to late, it will make thread loops and the machine will skip stitches. Good luck, these are a good machine and worth fixing. Phil

It must be a design flaw- things don't always last like they are supposed to. I would personally check the physical reason it is not responding... knowing what it would take to make it stop moving- or whatis causing it to. *perhaps the switch isn't working to stop it- or the mechanism that controls it is worn down. If it was new- I'd return it- but there are only a few options at this point.

Make sure stitch width slider is not set to zero. If not then you either have a bind in the needle bar pivot or an electrical problem (bad stepper motor or bad circuit board).
I can't remember if this machine has a twin needle lock out, if so turn it off.
Good Luck!
