It is likely a bad fan that gets quiter as it warms up from use. There are two fans on that TV - one under the bulb housing and one at the left vent hole. They are special fans with three leads - +, - and an RPM indicator (yellow lead typically).

SOURCE: colors don't line up

Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

SOURCE: 37 INCH LCD MAGNAVOX TV WILL NOT TURN ON. MUST BE

This problems, very common in LCD tv,after the tv was in used about a year or two.The new technalogy LCD tv don't handle heat very well, not like the old CRT Tube Tvs.The power supply board tend to have bad capacitors componnents leakage, that bulges up it top or puff up gases escape, that why it take times or couples pushes to the power botton to turn the tv on.U know basic electronic's,and have soldering tools and solders?Take the tv aparts, check for these bad capacitors, that bulges, puff up in the power supply board and replaced them, than ur power will work normal again.Or tries Websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a whole refurbish power supply board for the replacement.

SOURCE: older 52 inch tv magnavox

There two possible things based on your description.

Go to a channel that is in black and white and examine the picture--is it black and white or yellow?

These sets do have screen controls that can be adjusted but they rarely need it.

If the picture is yellow looking it could be interpreted as too bright.

If good black and white picture---stand back ten feet when you examine it---I can tell you how to adjust the sceen controls, not real easy but can be done with someone to watch screen.

I am here to help you and I have over 30 years experience with all kinds of TV sets.

Is black and white picture somewhat YELLOW LOOKING?

iF THIS INFORMATION TOLD YOU SOMETHING YOU DID NOT know rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.

PHILIPS 50 Inch HD DLP Projection TV the picture went out suddenly and there is not sound but a loud humming-buzzing coming from the set...any ideas on what could be wrong or if it can be fixed?

It's the optical block (color wheel) and the same thing happenned to our Philips 50" DLP. From what I've read, it's not worth the trouble & $$ to fix. Dig a hole!

Humming fan

ok it could be a fan...or a colorwheel...turn the tv on....let it power all the way up...then shut down ...you are listening for WHEN the noise stops...does it stop when the lamp powers down..look @ the back to see this..if it does then it will need a colorwheel..if the noise is there for 5-10 minutes after lamp has shutdown then it is a fan...problem: there are 3-4 fans in the tv...which one is the next question...let me know what you find..
