Somebody exploded an egg in Kitchenaid Microwave combo oven, and circuitboard went bad. Power but no heat. Coincidence?

How likely is it that egg explosion and subsequent clean up caused motherboard to go bad?

I have never exploded an egg in my microwave, but for whatever reason my motherboard being over 14yrs old just went out.

It is highly unlikely that an "egg explosion" caused the mother board to go bad, however anything is possible. The way a microvave oven works is that the Magnatron generates microwave energy into the cavity of the oven itself. When the wave guides direct the enregy to the object to be cooked it does so by the heat created to anything that may contain any sort of liquid by making it viabrate that it causes heat to be generated. In the case of a microwave oven it cooks the food from the inside outward.

The circuit board is in a separate section so the motherboard can't come into contact with the exploded egg. Was any liquid cleaning solution sprayed inside to clean up the mess? There might be some crevices where cleaning solution spray could work its way into the circuit board section since it's very close by. Always use a damp cloth instead of saturating the oven with cleaner.

Check out this door frame diagram, specifically number 1805. It clips on to the door frame. Remove it using a dull table knife or something similar (be careful not to scratch or break anything). You will then have access to the bottom screw.

If there's no damage it should be fine.

I would double-check for cracks, especially in the inner door glass and the screen / mesh.

If it looks fine, heat a cup of water in a microwave-safe container for about 2 minutes and see if it cooks without arcing or odd noises and that it boils in about 2 minutes.

As always, never leave a microwave unattended while running.

There is often a fuse and a magnetron thermal fuse or thermostat.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

My Kitchenaid combo convection/mw works on convect but has a loud humming and no heat on microwave.

A loud humming noise in microwave mode will usually be a shorted high voltage diode or bad magnetron.

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

The problem is with the fuse or the high voltage transformer that is bad and needs replacement. Replacing the fuse will cost you under $100 from a professional and getting the transformer replaced will cost you around $200. As the unit has very high voltage inside so we don't recommend that this should be done by the user. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

pulling away from oven.
3. Remove bulb from socket.
4. Replace bulb, replace bulb cover by snapping back into wall.
5. Reconnect power.

Kitchenaid KHMS155LSS 1000 watt microwave makes grinding noise

Chances are you have a bad stirrer motor or the stirrer blade is jamming or loose on the motor shaft.

Your owner's manual should tell you how to remove the stirrer cover to check it.

If for some reason you don't have your owner's manual, you can download it free here, as well as the parts manual for your model.

You can also find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

COINCIDENCE? Yes... :) So go buy another one, it'd probably be cheaper than getting the bad one repaired.
