SOURCE: External Harddrive Ignorance...

I've seen this happen with hubs being connected to external hard drives before.

Do you have a free usb port on the back of your computer you can plug it into?

That should fix the problem.

SOURCE: Belkin F4U017 7 port USB

I just had the same problem and was able to figure our a permanent fix.Judging by the date of you post, I'm guessing you've already remedied this problem one way or another. But just in case you haven't or someone else is having the same problem, I'll go ahead and post what to do. First, make sure you leave the USB hub plugged in right now so that Device Manager lists what it thinks is the Bluetooth device. Go into Control Manager > Hardware & Sound > Device Manager. Right click on Bluetooth device that is showing up in error. From the dropdown box, select Properties. Click the Driver Tab. Click Uninstall. Check "Delete the driver software for this device." Click OK. Unplug your USB hub for a few seconds, then plug it back in. Windows should now recognize it as a "Generic USB hub." You should be good to go. Just remember not to install that update again or try to update the driver for the Generic USB hub. If you do, you'll end up with the same problem. I hope this helps someone out there.

Connecting WD Passport external HD with Belkin N+ router

I had this same issue. Found it to be a sequencing issue. Plug the USB into the router with the power off to the HDD. Power on the HDD and you should be able to get to it fine. Also make sure you have the latest firmware on the router.

My mac won't recognize my wd hd anymore

I devised these simple steps that tend to remedy quite a few issues with most USB portable / external hard drives and devices (though not always)

A few things to check but assumes USB and Windows for other interfaces / operating systems similar steps may be adapted to suit.

1. Ensure it is connected directly to the computer to a USB 2.0 port not a USB 1.0 port as this can have effects on performance and reliability

2. Use only the cables that came with it NOT one that fits that may have been lying around or is longer. Not all USB cables are equal even though they should be)

3. Do not connect through an external USB HUB unless that hub is USB 2.0 AND has its own power supply.

4. Use ONLY the power supply that came with it if it has an external power supply Don’t use any other unless you know it has both the same voltage and current rating e.g. 12V 500mA anything rated below that would not work properly.

5. Always use the same port for connecting your devices. Some devices do not like being switched about. If switched they may want to install software / drivers again. This can be especialy true if you move a HUB to another port

If you checked and fixed anything there and still have issues then check your hardware from CONTROL PANEL / SYSTEM / HARDWARE.
Any exclamation marks by hardware need fixing before you investigate any further

When I plug my wd 250 hd into my laptop (Win XP), my hd sounds funny (it makes like 3 "clank" noises, like when trying to read the drive). Win XP will recognize that a usb connection has been made but...

Those 'clank' noises are definitely not a good sign--the drive is failing and is trying to spin up but is unable to.

The only suggestion I have is to get pricing on sending it off to a company who can repair the hard drive and (hopefully) recover any data you have on it.

Sorry for the bad news...

WD My Book 1TB not recognised by belkin modem router USB storage

I have a work around for this.

In the detail of the Belkin manuals it says you can attach up to 4 USB storage devices via a USB HUB.

I had an old Hub so I Connected the HUB to the router and the Maxtor to the HUB --- It worked :-) It came up in a few seconds.

At first I powered the HUB but later took the power out of the hub and it still worked ;-} However when I used a different HUB it would not work without power to the HUB.

The HUB I use is an old Belkin 4 port Tetra Hub. The newer 7 port Belkin HUB (5 Rear 2 Top) only worked with the HUB powered.

Hope this helps untill Belkin Upgrade the Router sofrtare.
