SOURCE: Technical problem(please help)

If your TV is the 42EP24S model, get the TV-3940-01 repair kit if you can. If you cannot get that kit, get the 6871VSNB03E kit. Rich-Tech has it for $198. Unfortunately Rich-Tech's kit does not include the EEPROM so how long the repair will last is unknown.

SOURCE: Menu Scrolls Uncontrollably

The most common cause of the problem is a stuck/shorted button either on the television or on the remote. The worst case scenario is a faulty key control board. Remove the remote control battery or put it away from the television. Press the menu button on the television and check if the menu scrolls by itself. If yes, the DOWN button is stuck or shorted. You can actually hear or feel it click when pressed if it is not stuck.

Open the back of the television to gain access to the key control board. You can either repair/replace the faulty button or replace the key control board. Remove the screw holding it to the television casing. Disconnect the old board and install the new one.

Replace the remote control if the buttons on the television control are working properly.

Toshiba tv 40rv525u has started to change channels

My TV 40RV525U changing channels, menus itself for few months ( I use antenna).
my son tried to stop the channel scrolling by enter weird number into the channel to stop it scrolling such as 555, 777..
later, it turn on off by itself and unable to hold on a channel
I call Toshiba customer service and they ask money $25 for troubleshooting but I denied since I do not want to waste money and time.

Now, I found how to fix it myself.

In my case, something was wrong with the signal comes from the button control on the left side of the TV.
========================
What I did
========================
unplug the power cord.
Remove back cover.
Look into the motherboard ( biggest green at the center).

First, I disconnect a connector on the motherboard come from the IR board that receive the wireless signal control ( meaning the remote is disable).
I turn on the TV, press on Menu button on the TV side. Menu is still scrolling.

I turn off TV, disconnect power cord and connect the IR connector back to the motherboard.
I then disconnect the nearby connector that comes from the side control buttons.

Turn on the TV by remote, press menu button on the remote to check. The menu stays.

DONE.

I use electric tape to seal off the connector and let it hanging there.
Close the TV back panel

I have been watching TV for 3 nights without menus/channels scrolling.
NO AVAILABLE red message when watching DVD is no longer existed.

Hope this help someone else.

Hello mrdavidmetca,

Welcome, and thank you for using FixYa!

I would start by pulling the batteries from the remote control. Manually turn the TV off and then back on, manually. If the issue resolves, replace the remote.
If the issue continues; you will need to find a local TV Repair Shop and have the Tuner Board replaced.

Scrolling

Sounds like it has one of two problems first one could be a stuck button. The micro locks up and the set wont come on also could be causing the channel scrolling run you finger along the channel buttons. Other than that you would need a new signal board you have a locked up micro...this part will be No longer Available.

13 inch Haier TV

Plug it into a power strip and turn off the power strip as well as the TV. I've been told that newer TVs are always "on" - standby mode- and someone probably has a device somewhere in the near vicinity that is turning it on. (Or your cat is watching it when you're not home.) Or you could just unplug it when you leave.

Scrolling Channels

You probably have a bad channel down switch on the TV. This is common if any kind of liquid spilled inside of the TV near the controls. The other possibility is just a stuck button on the control pad itself. Sometimes the plastic warps a bit causing to rub against the cabinet causing it to stick. Try moving the button and see if it has free movement.
