There are several reasons why your Toshiba DLP projection TV might be turning off after a few minutes. Here are some steps you can take to try and diagnose and fix the issue:
Check the lamp: The most common reason for a DLP TV to shut off after a few minutes is a faulty lamp. Check the lamp to see if it's still functioning properly. If it appears to be damaged or has reached the end of its life (typically around 2000-3000 hours), replace it with a new one.
Check for overheating: Overheating can also cause the TV to shut off. Check the fan to see if it's running properly and clean any dust or debris that may be blocking the airflow.
Check for firmware updates: If the TV's firmware is outdated, it can cause it to shut off. Check the manufacturer's website for any available firmware updates and install them if necessary.
Check the power supply: A faulty power supply can also cause the TV to shut off. Check the power supply unit to see if it's functioning properly and replace it if necessary.
Check the color wheel: If the color wheel is damaged or not functioning properly, it can cause the TV to shut off. Check the color wheel for any damage or signs of wear and replace it if necessary.
If none of these steps solve the issue, it may be necessary to have a professional technician diagnose and repair the TV.
Make sure your remote is not shutting off the TV. Turn the TV on and remove the batteries from the remote or take it into another room for a while. If it still shuts off, the power supply unit int the TV is overheating and has a thermal safety that shuts the TV down to avoid a fire. If there is a large amount of dust build up in the back of the TV. Get a can of compressed air and take the TV outside and blow the dust out. This may help.
Most cable supplies provide a switched receptacle on the rear of their cable boxes. Plug the power supply for the tv in there if you want the cable box to shut the tv off when you shut the cable box off.
Look for the computer processor inside the TV. It needs to be cleaned. A can of compressed air will work. The processor is overheating and causing the tv to shut off. Look for the small fan that is supposed to keep the processor cool then remove the dust.
Sounds as though you have a video problem. It may be the convergence chips. The TV is shutting down do to a default in the circuit ( the set knows there is an error of somekind so it shuts down to protect itself). This is a problem that needs a pro trouble shooter since it could be in about any board. Sorry I couldn't help more
