Instructions

  1. Step 1 Back up all of the important data on the machine, especially the files in the “My Documents” and “Shared Documents” folders.
  2. Step 2 Locate the original installation discs for all of the software that is installed on the machine.
  3. Step 3 Download all of the latest drivers for the computer's hardware from the site of the computer manufacturer or the hardware manufacturer.
  4. Step 4 Insert the Windowswant to know how i can reformat hp ze 4300 - mag-glass_10x10.gif installation disk into the CD-ROM drive and reboot the computer. Press a key to boot from CD when prompted by the installation disc. If the computer continues to boot from the hard drive, follow the instructions in the computer's documentation to set the BIOS to boot from CD first.
  5. Step 5 Press the “Enter” key at the installation options screen. When the software licensee is displayed, press “F8” to agree to it. The installation will scan the computer’s hard disk for some basic information.
  6. Step 6 Press the “Esc” button if the software offers to repair the previous Windows XP installation. A list of the hard drivemag-glass_10x10.gif partitions on the system will be displayed.
  7. Step 7 Select the partition containing the Windows installation. In most cases, it will be the only partition listed, and on others, it will be the largest partition listed. Press the “D” key to delete the partition, and press "L" and "Enter" to confirm the choice.
  8. Step 8 Create a new partition in the freed space by pressing the “C” key and press “Enter” to make the partition the maximum allowable size.
  9. Step 9 Select the newly created partition, and press “Enter” to install Windows XP on it. Format the drive to the “NTFS” file system, and follow the prompts to continue the installation. Do not select the “Quick” option, because it may leave certain structures of the old file system intact.
  10. Step 10 When the new copy of Windows XP boots, it will ask some configuration questions, and then it will begin looking for hardware. Install all of the drivers for the hardware on the system, and reboot the machine as required. Then, install all of the software that will be needed on the computer, and copy all personal files into the new installation.
  11. Step 11 Ensure that anti-virus software, anti-spyware software, and a firewall are installed and configured correctly. These programs will help to protect the new Windows XP installation and keep it performing well.

Hi i have a porbolem with my hp pavilion dv5000 so i wanna reformat it and i dont know why

To reformat your HP machine, you need the recovery disks...This article tells you how to create them....Note...they can only be created ONCE from your machine.....so make sure you do it correctly:

http://www.pctechbytes.com/hp/hp-recovery-cd-creation

Next.... BACK UP your data...and TEST it.....make sure your data is working on your backup media....formatting the drive will erase all your data and start over from a fresh copy of Windows.

After that you need to boot your PC from the recovery disk (if it doesn't ask you to boot from the CD you will need to hit F10 key at your HP splash screen to enter the system BIOS. Find the boot order setting and change it so the CD/DVD drive is on top)

After you successfully boot from the DVD, you can pretty much follow the on screen instructions. The following page has more information on reinstalling Windows: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/help/install-reinstall-uninstall

Good Luck...be careful, but don't be afraid :) as long as you have good backups you should be all good.

Hp pavillion ze 4300-won't start up.

There are a few ways you can get the files off of this to a transfer to a new PC.
  1. Download Hiren's Boot CD and use the mini XP menu to see the files and copy them to another attached drive. On this website use the HTTP link to download the zip file.
  2. Remove the hard drive and attach it to the new PC. The new PC will see the drive and you will be able to copy the files.
  3. Boot to safe mode. Log in as Administrator and copy the files to an external device.
  • As for fixing the Windows OS, use your recovery CD's after you get the data off.

Cant install recovery disks after a hard drive reformat!

the recovery disk is designed to repair or restore a system to its previous factory condition and is not a full installation. the formating of your hdd would have erased all the data required for this process to be completed. you can try a recovery utility that may be able to help you at this link. the disk might not have been saved in an .iso format to tell the computer to run it before starting an OS. if this disk is recognized and runs on your system then you will need to attempt a recovery, which is unlikely since the drive has allready been formated many necessary system files may not be able to be restored. at this point a complete new install will be necessary.
Good Luck!

Reformat laptop

There should be restore partition on the hard drive. Right after you turn on the laptop press F11 to start the restore process.
It there is no option for that, press F1 after you turn on the laptop to enter the BIOS. Under Startup make sure the options for F11 are highlighted 'YES'. Please let me know if this helps. If you need restore disks, let me know.

Need help disassembling hp 4300 laptop

One of my favorites things about HP is they have service manuals available for free online. Yours is located at:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01122313.pdf

and will give you exploded views, step-by-step disassemble, and part numbers for everything you'd ever need for that laptop. If you need a manual for another laptop, you can go to hp.com and search for the model number under support and troubleshooting information.

I hope this helps!

How to reformat my laptop without a cd??

When you turn it on, watch the screen carefully. Many times recovery is contained on a small partition of your hard drive. When your computer begins booting, watch for a short message that says something like, "For recovery press F11". It could be another F key. You will only get a couple seconds to choose it. Choose an option that does a full restore which will reformat the drive.
