Top 3 shelves don't freeze

Cold air sinks. If evaporator temp is not low enough only the items on bottom of freezer will get cold and possibly freeze - stuff on top will not.
Throw a digital thermometer in there towards the top shelves and I bet your temps are high. Low refrigerant will cause this; furthermore, if you leave the refrigerator door open by accident, the refrigerator will never shut off, the freezer evaporator will freeze over with a block of ice, and the freezer temps will be higher. If that is what happened, simply unplug the unit and allow it to self defrost and then turn it back on for proper operation and make sure that the refrigerator door is properly closed!

Daewoo FRN-U20IA top of freezer compartment won't freeze

It was the fan at the top of the freezer that had stopped working after 3 years, therefore the freezing air wasn't getting to the top of the freezer. From the inside, unscrew light unit and unclip, pop out two circular discs at top and unscrew one screw. Unscrew 2 more screws and prise the back panel off. (Arrows mark the clips). Pull off fan, take out motor, replace (keeping rubber bits) and push back fan with a bit of nail varnish on spindle. Put everything back together. Turn on, depress door light switch and after 30 seconds fan should rotate. You can buy a fan on eBay or from www.4daewoo.co.uk for about 40 pounds.

Top half does not freeze

There is a fan behind the back wall of the freezer about 1/2 way up from the bottom, you should be able to hear this running when the freezer is on. If you do not hear this then you need a new evaporator fan motor.

If you hear the fan run then you most likely have a problem with the automatic defrost cycle that would most likely be the heat element that is located just below the coils inside the freezer behind the panel.

The top of the freezer is not freezing.

Normal 0 If the bottom of the freezer is freezing (but only just), but the top is just above freezing, then your problem may be either your defrost timer or the defrost heating element. You'll need a thermometer to determine how cold (or not cold) your freezer is getting. Usually a freezer is happiest when it's full, so being too full is likely NOT the problem (there is room for air to circulate, right?).

If you're handy, you can troubleshoot the problem yourself by following the suggestions found here, as that may at least identify the problem. Replacing components inside your refrigerator isn't incredibly complicated, but if you're uncomfortable with taking things apart, you may be better off seeking the help of a properly trained professional.

Hope this information helps!

GE upright freezer

If this is a frost free model the fan could be bad. If not frost free it is probably low on freon. I don't recomment fixing this as you can never really trust the freezer again. Most of the time the leak can't be found and adding freon is only a temp solution.

Top half not freezing

If this is not a frost free unit , it probably has a freon leak. This is usually not worth fixing in a deep freeze. If it is a frost free unit the fan could be bad. This is an easy repair.
