Map Update When I tried to update my maps through TomTom Home, the device says Cannot Update Memory Full. Sorry and I can do nothing. How can I update the maps? It is supposed to have Lifetime updates. The place where I bought the device told me to purchase a memory card - however there is no slot fro a memory card.

SOURCE: Update Tomtom map

To take advantage of mapshare, your maps must be version 6.75 or higher, and software version 7.xxx
You can also buy new maps.

In both cases, you will have to use the software TomTom Home.

The best thing to do is up grade your SD card to a 2 gig this will give you plenty of space, for maps and up grades.Graham

SOURCE: new purchased North america map.

I am assuming that, without being a GEEK, you are sufficiently proficient with a computer. I will describe the procedure with all the necessary details. I use Windows XP and all folders I refer to are in Windows OS hierarchy. I have tried all except starting from the SD card, I happen not to have a 2GB card ready.
I suggest you read the whole post, think about its feasability from your point of view, and proceed from there. If you have any misgivings about what I say, DO NOT DO IT. I shall NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR GPS.

First of all you should install the HOME application on your computer. Then you connect your GPS to the computer. When it asks you if you want to connect to the computer tap YES, and the HOME application will launch. You may let it perform an update (if any ) of the OS (application that manages the GPS). Do not let it make any update of the OLD map. On each screen you have a CANCEL button.

Use the TomTom Home Application to backup your device. The backup will be stored on your computer, and you will be able to restore it in case of a problems.

Disconnect your GPS and insert the SD Card in slot. Then connect the GPS to the computer and let it communicate with the HOME application.
When HOME launches it will show you the internal memory of the GPS and the SD card and you are asked to select from where to run the device. Select the external SD card.

If any thing goes wrong STOP.

In the main window of the HOME application use the right arrow to go to go to Backup and restore icon. Click the icon, HOME will restore the application and the old map, all that is on the internal memory.

If that does not work, I think you should copy the content of the backup folder \My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Backup\GO\Backup01 on the SD card. and try restarting the system from the external card.

What remains to be done is to look for the new map and put at the right place in the HOME folder.
Here I will show you the directory hierarchy in WindowsXP
On my computer the map is
\My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Download\complete\map
In this directory there is folder called North_America_2GB. It contains a 1kB activation Zip archive file, a 1.5GB map zip archive, a 6kB table of contents (. toc file) and two image files.

Once the application and the map are on the external SD card you should be able to start the device from the internal memory or the SD card. When you turn it on you will probably see two icons (one of the internal mempory and the other for the SD card) . They will be flashing for a short while. You have to tap the one that you want to start with.

How do I update maps on tom tom one from computer to GPS ?

Usually, you connect your TomTom to your computer, and use the TomTom software (e.g. HOME) to update (e.g. buy, download and install) your map(s).
If your question is about how to copy a (new / another) map on your computer to your TomTom device (i.e. without using the TomTom HOME software), you can simply copy the "map" folder (of the map on your computer) to your TomTom Device (that you've connected to your computer).
You may have other questions like, is there enough memory on your TomTom device for the map ?; is the (new/other) map version compatible for the TomTom (model/version) device that you have ?; is the map "activated" to run on your TomTom device? etc.

I tried to update my unit and got an error message before it was done that the update wasn't completed and now when I turn it on it says I cannot use the USA_Canada map on the device..Stuck

Quote:
We're sorry, but HOME can't complete that task. Please try again later, or contact customer support. For problems with items that are stored on your device, we advise you to remove and re-install the item.
END

To make a long story short, the problem was with the map that is stored on the computer from downloading the latest map guarantee (2 1/3 years ago). In my case, this is the same map as is on the GPS, but it is not complaining about the map on the GPS. If this happens, there are several things that can be done:

1. Accept the message whenever it appears and go on with what you were doing since at least most functions of Home appear to work correctly in spite of it saying that it can't complete the task.

2. If you have a backup of the previous version of TomTom Home, replace the updated version in the Applications folder with the backup version. This will return behavior to what it was before the update, without the error messages.

3. Remove the map folder (e.g., USA___Canada) from your Documents->TomTom->HOME->Download->complete->map folder. You may want to save this someplace so that you can put it back when TomTom releases an update to Home that works correctly.

Hope helps.

No maps found

When your tom tom comes up with the no maps found error message. There are several causes to the problem.
If you updated your map using the latest map guarantee and then get the error No maps found, make sure you install the latest version of the TomTom application.
Check for the latest application: Connect your navigation device or memory card to your computer and click Update my device in TomTom HOME to check if a new application is available.
You can check the version of your application in TomTom HOME. Connect your device and then click Manage my device and select the Items on my device tab. Expand Applications and then click More info.
Your map may require the latest version of the TomTom application.
Check for the latest application Connect your navigation device or memory card to your computer and click Update my device in TomTom HOME to check if a new application is available.
HOME may not immediately offer the latest application version when installing a downloadable map on a blank memory card. Re-connect your memory card to HOME and check for the latest application by clicking Update my device in HOME. HOME this time offers the latest application for your device. Try Installing maps on a new memory card
You can check the version of your application in TomTom HOME. Connect your device and then click Manage my device and select the Items on my device tab. Expand Applications and then click More info.
You need to also make sure all files are in the right places. Browse the content of your navigation device:
Windows XP: Click Start > My Computer and then double-click the removable drive of your device.
Windows 7 / Windows Vista: Click the Windows start button > Computer and then double-click the removable drive of your device.
Mac OS X: Double-click the desktop icon of your navigation device.
Check the following:
The map folder (e.g. Western_Europe) needs to be located in the root directory of your navigation device or memory card. This means the map folder may not be inside another folder. Before you move the map folder we recommend that you create a manual backup.
The map folder needs to contain at least the following files
cline.dat cname.dat cnode.dat faces.dat mapinfo.dat poi.dat tables.dat tmccodes.dat traffic.dat .meta (map v705 or higher will have/need this file) .meta.dct (map v705 or higher will have/need this file) .pna
If any of these files are missing restore a previously made backup or re-install your map to your device (in TomTom HOME click Add Traffic, Voices, Safety Cameras etc. > Items on my computer).
Hpe this was helpful. Thanks for using fixya.

TomTom map of Poland is hopeless. should get a free update on a new device. There are a lot of new roads in Poland and the device which I bought 2 months ago does not take it into account at all. Can't...

You will only get a free update on a new device if you install tomtom home on your computer and login withing the first 2-3 months of purchasing your device. Also, if you purchased a device that is "refurbished" or "recertified" then you do not get this free update and your map can be up to about a year and a half old. In this case, you would have to purchase a map update. To update you will have to install TomTom Home on your computer (download from TomTom.com) and login. You can typically purchase one update for about 45 USD or purchase a year of updates for just a little more (like 59.99 USD). A "year of updates" gives you an updated map each quarter for one year. I don't know that I would have bought a TomTom for use outside of North America or the UK. Sorry.

It says "no maps found"

I had the same problem before on a TomTom GO 730. The free internal memory was too small to hold the updated map so installation failed (the download to PC was OK, the message is misleading).
It's a TomTom software bug to not check on the available free memory properly before the update process is started.
My TomTom device required a new software install from scratch. Remove any excess MP3 or unused voices before you retry the update.

TomTom Go 720 map activation

No Maps Found usually means the Application on your internal memory is not the latest one, or the map did not download correctly.
Make sure when you select internal memory when updating your device on home, that you update the application as well.
V8351 should be the latest application for your device.

TomTom One Europe

What is happening is your map updates are being copied onto your memory card without overwriting the old maps hence you are running out of memory.

In the tomtom home browser you should be able to delete your old map before installing the new one. Make sure you have a back up of the map card before you try this though so you can reinstall if something goes wrong.

Also have you replaced the voice prompts on your tomtom? The voice files take up a lot of memory so if you have put new ones one without removing the old ones you will be wasting memory.

There is one window in TThome that lists eveything installed on yuor card so have a good look at this and see what you can get rid of.
