How do i open the top on an old maytag A511 washer?

I have a Maytag Atlantis top load washer which leaks in the rear right hand corner under the discharge hose, how do I take the machine apart to get to the problem.

Either the engine or the drum bearing are worn out and the rotor/drum is touching the stator/tub. It's normal wear and since replacement parts are no longer fabricated i think it's time to buy a new one.

excessive oil . is usualy found under the machine / if inside / on side's of shell this could be water seal leakage . the 511 is a very good machine but its also very old . . agit problem is usualy in the belts and motor roller base . /try cleaning the pulleys and replace belt set / 2011124 and 2011125 / put a roller base set w springs . this will perk it up ,,use info on belt package for belt adjustment. they run loose. ( do not over tighten .)

It is your water pump. If you don't know what you are doing it could be tough.

the top clips are hanging type.. start with the top clips below there respective recesses in the units top, then tilt the bottom of the front out till it gets to about a 35-45degree angle and the clips should hook onto the top panel and then allow you to swing it shut and replace the 2 screws at the bottom..

The tub should not become unbalanced over time. There suspension springs may wear unevenly, however. Replace all of the suspension springs and it should be fine.

Should be worth fixing. Belt kits for Maytag A511 washers are still available on line (about $30).

Mine the same concern, I took it apart and found the thermo fuse in the motor had a bad terminal. Maytag parts man said you must get a new motor even though the fuse has a part # on it and is easy to change. I made temporary repairs until I find a fuse from a used parts machine. Scott

the machine is several years old and may have multiple problems one could be the timer since it is not cutting off, and either a problem with the water pump or something blocking it
probally time for a new washer

The lock at the center of spinner fallen /return it and tight it.
