The rundll32.exe process is responsible for running DLLs and placing its libraries in the memory. The rundll32.exe process is known as a command line utility program, and it performs its embedded functions along with the rundll.exe file. Rundll32.exe works by invoking a function that is exported from a specific 16-bit or 32-bit DLL module. However the only DLLs that you can call with the rundll.exe and rundll32.exe files are the ones that are only specified to be accessed by these processes.
The rundll32.exe file operates by parsing the command line. The specified DLL is then loaded through the function LoadLibrary(). Afterwards, from the function , it gets the addresses through GetProcAddress(). The command line tail is passed when the is called. Next, the DLL is unloaded upon the return of . Finally, the rundll32.exe file exits. We strongly recommend that you run a FREE registry scan to identify rundll32.exe related errors.

I have a pc dell xp windows and everytime i try to do something or download something it comes up rundll32.exe unknown file associated with its everytime i go to a web site that says it will fix it i...

You definitley have a virus/malware issue. This is not unusual with rundll32.exe files. rundll32.exe is a legitimate and needed file within Windows. The key is "unknown file associated" which is an indication that a new file with similar name has been inserted onto your PC.

My suggestion would be to boot into safe mode without networking and run your anti-virus software as Administrator.

Rundll32.exe is missing

Check if you find a copy of rundll32.exe in the folder C:\windows\system32\dllcache or in C:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386. If this is the case, go ahead and copy rundll32.exe to the system folder C:\windows\system32If you don't find a copy on your system, you can try to find the file on your windows installation disks.
Insert the windows OS CD and repair the XP, that should reload the copy of rundll32.exe.
Rundll32.exe is vulnerable to virus, so the file might have been deleted by the anti-virus you are using.
Good luck and please do rate my solution. Also post comments in case of any doubts related.
