SOURCE: dell server poweredge 1800 frequently shutdown

is there an error message that appears? can you check error logs? I need more information to be able to help you. I would first try to blow dust out of the fans, as it may be over heating, another possibility is that there is software on the machine that is causing it to shut down.

SOURCE: Valid operating systems fro Power Edge 1800

During the Windows XP setup you will need to provide the RAID driver using a pre-formated floppy disk.
Windows will ask you if you want to provide additional drivers and give you the key combination to use to do that.

SOURCE: Dell poweredge 1800 scsi drive not found

Hi,
check if the drive is showing in the bios of the server,
shut down the server, take out the power cable, press and hold the power button so as to realease flea power, open the server, and reseat the data cable at both ends and if there is another power cable available in the server swap it with the existing cable plugged into the scsi drive.

and now try to start your server.

SOURCE: Poweredge 1800 server

Hey,

I looked over the spesifications for the poweredge 1800 servers, go ahead, it will work perfectly but there is one problem in the windows XP setup, you will need to insert / load SCSI or SATA drivers for the hard drive With a floppy disk, or if you don't have a floppy drive your going to need to create a custom windows xp setup cd and add the drivers into it so it can start the SCSI or SATA hard drive and finish the install. without the drivers it might not find the hard drive.

Aside from that I don't see any other problems. You should be able to get the drivers, and everything ese from dell site
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/

Actually I looked over the dell downloads, I see only windows 2000 on the list with windows server 2003, and 2008 and linux distributions.

This could be a 2nd problem, drivers might not be avaialble, or work with xp, but we might be able to get it to work.

So two problems, SCSI or SATA drivers in windows xp / windows 2000 setup

2nd problem is in windows xp drivers, you could try windows 2003's drivers and 2000's and see if they work, if not, then we would have to look for drivers ourselfs from the internet.

So xp might cause headache but we might get it working, windows 2000 seems to be supported perfectly.

Let me know how the project goes
Thanks,
Ekse

My server poweredge 1800 failed how can i remove data? and the server was configured raid 5

The obvious is to repair it, but if you have another identical server you can place drives and access data. The replacement should boot as failed server. Make sure to track drives and slot location. Shuffling may cause major failure. It may want to stripe itself again and cause data loss and defeating the purpose.

Dell Poweredge 1800 server not start, i press power button but nothing hapened

Your Model of Dell Poweredge 1800 server may not have a redundant power supply. The power supply is the most like cause of the problem. order a replacement power supply and replace the faulty unit.

I have a Dell's PowerEdge 1800 server and the server's fans are making a loudy noise. Is there any way of quieting them down? Thanks, Ricardo

The fan bearings are worn, it is best to replace them.
As a temporary measure you can insert a small drop of oil on the bearing, the bearing can be accessed by carefully lifting the label in the center of the fan.

1 if some hardware problem is there. so check any yellow/organge colour led is glowing in the server which indicates hardware failure.if it under AMC then get it checked with vendor.

2 when there is some problem with the OS.

2 when the surrounding temp of the server is very high.

yes you can do that but you need the drivers for the scsi interface. when you install windows xp (for example) i think you may have to press the f6 key on the installation to add these drivers.

Otherwise, installation wont take place.

No power on my PowerEdge 1800 Server

dells power supplies must come from dell. I would call dell and give then the service tag number of your server and they will be able to tell you about how much a power supply is.
