Everytime I try to take a picture, the icons on the screen are all there but the image I'm trying to capture doesn't show up. It's just a blank, black screen. If I try to take the picture, it just captures the black screen. I didn't drop it or anything, I just put it on one day and it started that. Please help. Sounds like a defective CCD imager. You may be in luck. Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. Please check the following two links for more info:

Turn off the camera.
Remove the battery pack.
Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
Allow the camera to remain without power for 60 seconds.
Reinsert the battery pack.
Turn on the camera.
Also try resetting the Camera back to factory default: The RESET button is located at the lower right side of the control button. To reset the camera just press the RESET button using a sharp-pointed object.
If the issue remains the same, then service may be required.
