Connecting external microphone to imac g5

I have bought a headset with microphone (Logitech) so I can talk on Skype. I have an imac g5 which has a built in mic but there is a loud hiss at the other end when i use it so bought a headset for better sound quality both ends.  However although the earphones work when connected the microphone does not work. What do I need to do to make the external microphone work with an imac G5? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Get yourself a great little gadget called iMic. It's a usb connector that adapts to let you used your headset mic and the mac system os will recognize it very well. Works good .
Costs about 24 bucks or so..

How do you use an external microphone with the imac G5, and what type of microphone isd needed?

The iMac G5 does not have a microphone in jack, only a line in jack. The signal levels are generally not compatible.
You can buy a USB-based microphone (or headset), or you can buy a preamp unit such as this iMic.

go to skype settings, audio->select the mic from webcam->

check this also, in the general audio settings of the system, sometimes by default, the microphone will be muted.

Doesn't work with Skype

Fixed it: the microphone on the headphone was switched off - it's a bit of a design weakness in the Logitech headset: it's easy to unintentionally turn the microphone off while putting the headset on. The lower half of the right headphone's central medallion is a button - indicated by a crossed out microphone icon.

Clear chat mic doent work

in skype go to tools>options>audio setting make sue the microphone is logitech and the green bars should start moving as you talk.
if no logitech appears or the mic is not producing sound. call logitech for warranty info. if the mic is producing sound below is "make a free skype test call" to see if the program is transmitting.

I've bought a logitech headset for my Dell Dimension 8300 and can't seem to get it to connect properly. It had two jacks, not USB.

Hi,
One goes into the green headphone/speaker plug and the other goes into the red 'microphone' hole, or maybe the blue 'line in' hole, but only if that has been set as the 'line in'.
You can change the settings of the audio ports in your soundcard software eg Realtek Mixer.
Test your levels in the Audio/Video Setup of Messenger or in the Audio settings in the Skype 'Options' under Tools.
Hope this helps

Hi, I purchased a logitech stereo headset with noise-cancelling microphone, sent to my sister overseas to use via Skype or Majic Jack but when were are talking with each other the noise in the background...

Download audio codec for that. Go to this link:

http://www.free-codecs.com/XP_Codec_Pack_download.htm

Download it. When a box appears, Click Run button.
Unplug your headset jack. Try rebooting your computer. Replug your headset jack.

Best regards

Hearing through the PC microphones instead of the headset

Normal 0 Web Camera’s have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.

Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.

A. Skype Setup:

After downloading and installing Skype set it up as follows:

  1. Go to TOOLS, then OPTIONS, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  2. Then click on the Video Settings.
  3. The camera if installed properly will come up and show a picture.
  4. Then on the bottom of the page click on Save.

The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now see and talk to you.

B. Yahoo Setup:

After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger set it up as follows:

  1. Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
  2. Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
  3. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  4. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.

When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.
Hope this helps. Bud
