How can I fix the screen size on my Sony KDL 40S4100? The heads of people are cut off at the top.
The size is adjusted by checking you screen size it is in your menu if not, then you will ned to have it serviced,.
If you are using DirecTV with this set make sure your format is set to original format. Otherwise just make sure in the video settings you are set to original format. It is probably set to crop format now.

assuming you all have comcast and using an hdmi cable
first access menu (hit it twice) and go to set picture format, choose passthrough....or in your case auto hdmi
then turn box off, press guide and info on the front of the box, proceed through the setup, advanced is more in depth..lol...
select 1080, 720, and then either the standard or widescreen 480s to your liking.....
voila....
now check your tv settings to accommodate

If you have the led light on, then you need to replace the mainboard.
If no led light then replace the powerboard.

The most likely the TV has a power supply related problem. The most common thing to go out is the circuit board that supply power to the screen. Commonly called a Backlight Inverter Board.
I can't say it's 100% the problem because I can't actually look at the tv over the internet.
If by chance the TV is still under warranty, go that route.
If not under warranty and If you have some electronic experience, you can purchase a Service Manual over the internet and diagnose the source of the problem and fix it by soldering in the new part. The Service Manual will give you circuit diagrams, test points, and part# lists. Usually, cost under $20.

There is a problem with the processor. The only way to resolve this issue is to replace the main board. It is called the A board in your TV.
There are two for this model and the correct one will depend on what your serial number is.
