In the PLAY/EDIT mode the touch screen buttons/functions are no longer working, making it impossible to play the tape. Help!

I had the same problem and did a hard reset and that worked for me. look it up on the sony website how to do one.

This is usually caused by a defective LCD module or a defective flex cable that connects the LCD to the camera. I recommend replacing them both at the same time. The LCD / Touchscreen module is no longer available from Sony at a reasonable price for this Model. However, I have a limited supply of them in stock as well as an aftermarket supplier with hundreds of them.

Hi,
I am having the same issue with touchscreen buttons not working in my DCR-HC20. I tried the manual reset (remove AC+Batt, switch to ON for 15 secs, etc.) a few times but I doubt it reset the camcorder as the time and date are still accurate. I'm hoping to fix the touchscreen by a simple reset before taking repairing/replacing the camcorder.
Any idea how to proceed?
If the flex wire that other people mention needs to be replaced, can it be done by me? I'm handy and technical.

Play it with its remote. Seems flexible wire between lcd board and camcorder main board is bad so touch buttons not working.
