What is the area of a circle if the circumference is 2 pi inches

area formula is PI x r squared
that is 3.1417 times the radius of the circle squared
example is:- 3.1417 times 3 inches squared =3.1417 times 3x3=3.1417x9=28.279 square inches if you want to work back from a circumference measurement, the formula for circumference is 2 x PI x radius or PI x diameter
if you have a circumference of 12 inches then the dia is calculated 12 inches = dia x PI to get the diameter , divide the 12 inches by PI and that will be the diameter so that is 12 divided by 3.1417 =3.819 inches
now you can go from the first formula the radius is the diameter divided by 2 so the radius will be 3.819 divided by 2 = 1.909 inches
so applying the area formula it becomes 3.1417 times 1.909 times 1.909 =11.458 square inches
to find your answer simply substitute the dimensions in place of the example figures.in the relevant formula.

Area of circle

(pi)R squared (Fixya won't let me use the sign for Pi)

Area of a circle=pi*radius^2 or pi times radius times radius

example: suppose the radius of a circle is 10 inches, then the Area of the circle would be pi times 10 times 10 or 100*pi

pi represents the circumference (distance around) of a circle / diameter and for any circle is constantly the same number which is approximately 3.14

so in my example 100*pi=100*3.14 or 314 square inches

A well with an internal daimeter of 12 m is dug 15 m deep. the earth taken out of it is spread all around to a width of 3 m to form an embankmet. find the height of the embankment.

First you need to find the volume of earth removed. That is given by the formula l*pi*r^^2 = 15*pi*(12/2)^^2 =540 pi cubic meters.
That volume of earth is used to make a doughnut-shaped berm that surrounds the hole. The diameter of the doughnut hole is 12m. The diameter of the outside of the doughnut is 12+3+3=18m.
The height of the berm is h.
The volume of earth in the berm is h*[(pi*(18/2)^^2)-(pi*(12/2)^^2)]
which is h*pi*(9^^2-6^^2) = 540*pi
h(81-36)=540
h(45)=540
h=540/45=12m

Casio FX-115ES plus decimals to fractions

The display of radicals and Pi is limited. For example only square roots are displayed as roots, standing alone or in some complicated fractions. Pi is shown as Pi, but pi^2 is not. These are limitations you have to accept. So you did not do anything wrong.

Trying to find the surface area of a sphere given the volume: V = 4/3 X pi X r cube problem given vol. find the surface area v = 5000 5000(3/4 pi =r cube the book reads: 3 cube before and the square...

Almost exactly the way it's written in the book.

In the LineIO mode press
3 SHIFT [xth-root] 5 0 0 0 * 3 / ( 4 * SHIFT [pi] ) ) =

In the MathIO mode press
SHIFT [xth-root] 3 right-arrow 5 0 0 0 * 3 / ( 4 * SHIFT [pi]) =

xth-root is the shifted function of the key just below and right of the big round cursor pad.
* is the multiply key
/ is the divide key
pi is the shifted function of the x10^x key in the middle of the bottom row

BTW there's no "square root" in this problem. There's a "cube root" or "third root". Square root is the second root.

I'm trying to find the inverse cotangent of -2/3, and whenever I input Tangent^-1 (1/(-2/3)) it gives me .98279, however for homework we are using this software called Hawkes learning Center and it gives...

Aren't you getting -.98279 (a negative value)?

The tangent function (and the cotangent) are periodic, with a period of pi. The calculator will give you a result from -pi/2 to pi/2, while the Hawkes apparently is giving you a result from 0 to pi. The difference between 2.1588 and -.98279 is pi.

To make the calculator's result match Hawkes, if the (co)tangent gives you a negative value, simply add pi to it.

The difference between the inner and outer surfaces of a cylindrical pipe is 88cm sq..if the height of the cylindrical pipe is 14cm and the volume is 176cm cube. Find the inner and outer radius of the...

The surface area of the outer surface is the circumference of the outside of the pipe times its length. So, if OR is the radius of the outside of the pipe and SO is the outer surface area,
SO = 2 * pi * OR * 14
Similarly, the surface area of the outer surface is SI = 2 * pi * IR *14 (if SI is the inner surface area and IR is the radius of the inside of the pipe.
The question states that the difference between the outside surface area and the inside surface area is 88 sq. cm:
SO - SI = 88 ; substituting:
(2 * pi * OR * 14) - (2 * pi * IR * 14) = 88 ; factoring
(2 * pi * 14) (OR - IR) = 88 ;dividing both sides by 2*pi*14
(OR - IR) = 88/(2 * pi) = 88/(2 * 3.14159*14) = 1.00
So, the outside radius is 1 cm more than the inside radius.

It's not clear if the volume stated is the volume of the metal in the pipe or the volume of air inside the pipe, so I will solve it both ways:
If volume of 176cc is of the air inside, the formula for this volume is 14 * pi * IR *IR
176 = 14 * 3.14159 * IR * IR ; dividing both sides by 14 * 3.14159
176/(14 * 3.14159) = IR * IR ; doing the arithmetic
4 = IR * IR ; taking the square root of both sides
sqrt(4) = IR
IR = 2 cm
substituting back into the first equation, the OR is 1cm more than the IR, so
OR = 3 cm

If volume of 176cc is of the iron in the pipe, the formula for that volume is the difference between the volume of the outside of the pipe and the volume of the inside of the pipe, or
(14 * pi * OR * OR) - (14 * pi * IR * IR) = 176 ; factoring
(14 * pi) ((OR * OR) - (IR * IR)) = 176 ; dividing both sides by 14 * pi
((OR * OR) - (IR * IR)) = 176/(14 * 3.14159) = 4
but, since OR is 1 cm more than IR (from above), we can substitute OR = IR + 1
and OR * OR = (IR + 1) * (IR + 1) = (IR*IR) + 2*IR +1
So, ((OR * OR) - (IR * IR)) = 4 becomes
(IR*IR) + 2*IR +1 - (IR*IR) = 4 ; simplifying (IRsquared - IRsquared = 0)
2*IR + 1 = 4 ; subtract 1 from both sides
2*IR = 3 ; divide both sides by 2
IR = 3/2 ;
IR = 1.5cm
OR = 2.5cm

I have a tube 7.5m long. The internal diameter is 172mm. How do I work out, what the cubic capacity is for liquid of this tube?

The volume of a tube is the area of the base times the height.
In your case you were given the diameter of the tube.
D = 172mm
I converted this to meters right away so that the units are the same.
The area of a circle is pi x (radius)^2
Divide the diameter by 2 to get the radius.
R = .086m
Pi = 3.14159....
The area of the base of your tube is pi x (.086)^2
A = 0.023 m^2

To find the volume of the entire tube, multiply the height by the area.

V = H x A
V = 7.5m x 0.023m^2

V=0.174 m^3

Code PO153

Hi,

Switch off engine.
Check harness and connector condition and reliability, if a fault occurs then repair and go to step 6 of the test below.
If no fault is found then disconnect both upstream sensors and go to step 1 of the test below.

Test

  • Check harness continuity PI 128/002 is correctly wired to PI 105/006. If this gives a positive result then go to step 2. If the circuit is open then find and repair the wiring fault, re-connect the harness and go to step 6.
  • Check harness continuity PI 128/001 is correctly wired to PI 105/008. If this gives a positive result then go to step 3. If the circuit is open then find and repair the wiring fault, re-connect the harness and go to step 6.
  • Check harness continuity PI 129/002 is correctly wired to PI 105/019. If this gives a positive result then go to step 4. If the circuit is open then find and repair the wiring fault, re-connect the harness and go to step 6.
  • Check harness continuity PI 129/001 is correctly wired to PI 105/008. If this gives a positive result then go to step 5. If the circuit is open then find and repair the wiring fault, re-connect the harness and go to step 6.
  • If the continuity checks are positive then replace and re-connect the sensors. If this now gives a positive result go to step 6.
  • In order to check if the fault code has been cleared perform the service drive cycle. If this gives a positive result then stop. If the fault is still present then go to step 7.
  • Repeat the diagnostic procedure. If this now omits a positive result then stop.
When testing do not test the resistance between sensor pins 3 and 4 as the generated current can damage the platinum electrodes.

Any further help, let me know.

Thanks for using Fixya.
