RE: Samsung microwave SMH7187STG mfg'd 5/08. I heated cup of tea 2 min. Then I closed micro's door & micro emitted a continuous electrical buzzing sound.I opened door & buzzing stopped.

The cook relay on your control board is shorted, and the unit is cooking whenever you close the door.

When the magnetron overheats, its thermostat opens, shutting power down until the unit cools to a safe level, then power is restored.

I regularly repair these with my $54.95 service, which includes insured return shipping.

Details are here, or for full information and instructions, please e-mail me here at [email protected] and remind me of your full model number and symptoms.

WMH1163XVD seems to no be on full power. Takes 1 minute to heat up a piece of bacon

1 minute to cook a piece of bacon sounds pretty fast, really.

Try this:

MICROWAVE HEATING POWER TEST

The following test will provide a suitably accurate measurement of the output power of any microwave oven. Variations or errors in performing this test will produce uncertain results. If the line voltage (from the electrical outlet) is low, the magnetron output will be correspondingly low.

Equipment needed:

- Microwave safe container with 1000 mL (1 Liter) gradation.

- Fahrenheit or centigrade thermometer

Procedure:

Pour exactly 1000 mL (1 Liter) of cool tap water into the container. Using the thermometer, stir the water, then measure and record the temperature. For accurate results the water should be about 60 degrees F (20 degrees C).

Place the container on the center of the oven cooking shelf (do not leave the thermometer in the container and remove any metal racks), and heat the water (at full power) for 63 seconds. Use the second hand of a watch, not the oven timer.

After the heating time is completed, immediately remove the container, stir the water, re-measure and record the temperature of the heated water.

Subtract the starting water temperature (step 2) from the ending water temperature (step 3) to obtain the temperature rise.

To determine the output power in watts, multiply the total temperature rise by a factor of 38.75 if you're using a Fahrenheit thermometer or by 70 if you're using a centigrade thermometer.

If the oven is grossly underheating or overheating, then you probably have a bad magnetron.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

mini_manual_behind_grille_small.jpgdee77f7.jpgAt our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

Mu accuwaave makes a short noise intermittenly while trying to heat

Hi,

Is your microwave oven set to full power when the intermittent noise occurs?

If it's set to a lower power rating, then the noise you describe sounds perfectly normal.
At a lower power setting, the device which creates the heat or microwaves, called the magnetron, switches on and off intermittently so that the food etc. is not cooked too fast.
This is quite normal & you should only be concerned if the noise occurs while the microwave oven is set to full power.
In that case you will have to have it checked out to see what the cause is.

Best wishes,

Emerson MW8992sb - Turns on and acts like it is operating normally but does not heat properly. It only heats the items to a warm temp not hot. Even when on full power it seems it's only defrosting. It...

From your description it sounds like the magnetron is failing, or the high voltage transformer is not putting enough high voltage to properly drive the magnetron, the other possibility is the solid state triac is not working properly, normally if it becomes defective the power level stays on one only, but you stated even at full power it was only defrosting, so it would seem the triac is working but maybe not they way it should. The cost for parts and labor could be close to the price of a new unit depending on the nature of the repair.

Microwave oven does not heat

Make sure you have a separate circuit for the microwave to be plugged into. If the oven isn't receiving full power, it won't give you proper heat. Try plugging it into another outlet and see what happens.

Whirlpool(GH7145XF2-0) does not work occasionally

That's how it would sound if you were cooking on a power level less than full power.

If you enter the cooking time and hit Start, it should cook at full power by default and not cycle like you describe.

If you are using some sensor cook setting or automatic type cooking setting, it may cycle like that normally.

The first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a minute, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.

Let us know if the hard reset doesn't fix it.

If you don't have your manual, you can download it free here. Check the lower right area to enter your model. number.
