Water filling When on cold water, the washer will only fill so far and stop. It won't do anything else. If I turn the knob a little, it will start to drain, but because it's not filled completely, it doesn't wash. It only does this on the cold water. If I was on warm/cold, it works probably until the rinse cycle on cold water. Then it will only fill a little and stop.

SOURCE: GE washer won't fill with cold water

Cold water pipe had become frozen. FYI this model of washer has a nice feature whereas you can test each component i.e. valves, by setting the timer and reading the LED's on the front panel. Instructions are in the schematic.

SOURCE: GE SpaceMaker washing machine does not stop filling.

try replacing your water selenoid coming in. remember it isnt a mechanical timer it is a computerized timer, so if the selenoid isnt the problem, it might be the computerized timer. computers are very finicky, pain in the a- -!

SOURCE: won,t drain on rinse cycle

I had this same problem. I replaced the computer and the relay boards without luck. I found it was the FILL VALVES! Apparently when the washer changes cycles it expects water to fill the tub to a certain level. If the valves are not opening and water not filling the tub will cause the computer to just wait and wait and wait and wont advance to the next cycle.

I pull the knob to do a regular wash and nothing happens, no water no agitation. However, when I turn the knob to rinse it that works. This suddenly happened, was working before. Is it the knob?

Rinse on most washers is cold water your wash cycles can be cold hot and even warm. Problem You may have is a bad water feed valve Or Timer and possible bad wire harness at motor to timer
check water valve Turn washer to regular wash cycle pull knob on will washer fill ?
if water starts to fill then change washer temp if washer has this.
if water comes out on all settings water valve is fine.
Check the water both hot and cold that it is turned on;at faucet.
Your Kenmore Most likely has a bad water valve check for hot water side clog or not working.

Hi...my washer goes through cycles and then stops at "light" . It won't go through rinse and spin. Help

Make sure your cold water tape is turned on and the screen in the water valve is not plugged up, it may be trying to fill with cold water and cant get any, try filling the washer with cold water on a "wash" cycle to confirm it it fills with "cold" then just the rince cycle ion the timer may be faulty and would need to be replaced

Our gibson washing machine stops filling water from cold valve and when we turned the knob to warm, it fill normal for washing cycle, but it does not fill for spin cycle.. Is this because of defective...

check the cold fill hose screen for silt or dirt. also check at water valve for the same and clean. you must have at least 20psi of water pressure for the water to come in. also on most washers cold water is used for rinsing.

My 21882 top load Kenmore washer will start the cycle but stops after filling up; i can restart the cycle by pushing the knob in and going a little further in the cycle then starting again. But after a...

When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

  • It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.

Water won't cut off when filling... Hoover Galaxy A6834

Hi Steveb6723 ,Just read your posting. Now here is a little test I need you to preform so I can tell if the problem is your water valves or your pressure switch system. Now 1st turn it to a normal cycle and only select the cold fill.Pull the knob out so it starts to fill. Now turn the machine off at the power point,Does the water stop filling straight away?If it does select hot fill and pull the knob. When it starts filling on hot water turn the power off again and see if the water
stops straight away. Please reply and tell me if the hot or cold water continued to flow when the power was off.Looking forward to your reply.

Washer stopped at the drain cycle Model LSR8233JQ1

Could be either a bad lid switch or a bad water valve.
Set the timer dial to SPIN and turn the machine on.
If it spins the lid switch is OK. If it does not spin the lid switch must be replaced.
Next, set the timer dial on a wash cycle and set the water temperature knob to COLD water. If it fills, the lid switch is bad. If it does not fill the water valve is bad or the cold screen filter is clogged.
If the COLD does not fill, turn off the cold water faucet. Remove the cold water hose from the machine water valve and check for a clooged screen.
If it does not fill with COLD water and the screen is clear, replace the water valve.

    Filling With Water

If the water continues when electricity is discontinued the soleoid valve is jammed open, a fleck of rust or something, not designed to be repaired, it is easier and cheaper to replace. they are a standard part that fits 99% of all washers ~$10-20 at the local parts guy.

Usually only the cold solenoid has failed. it gets used more often.
If you are like me and only use cold water, swap the hoses on the taps, and swap the wire connectors on the solenoid valves, so the former hot is now cold, and you will get about the same number of years before you have to replace anything
