Hi, well whenever we have no sound, we need to check a few things and it seems like you have already checked the first step,and that's to ensure that the Speaker and Wires are all OK,.

Now IF you have checked and proved that the what you have and you are sure that they are all OK, then the ONLY other thing it can be is the main Audio Output Amplifier, I see this type of thing in my shop frequently, everything else works but NO sound.
Replacement of this Amp,is NOT a big job and the costs should be reasonable. Usually the Amp costs about $75.00 or so and then there is the labor, and i expect one should get it all fixed up for about $150.00 or so.
However, there may be an underlining problem, so this is just a guide..
It's my professional opinion, that you contact Dell, and ask them for a referral to an Authorised Service center, when you take the unit there please ask for a "Quote" BEFORE allowing any work to commence. This way you can make an educated decision as to what to do.
