My patc hotel style ac unit compressor turn off after 6 minutes.
I have a PTAC 12000 BTUs style AC Unit that the hot air discharge runs into a box 6 inches away open at both ends. Is this why the compressor keeps turning on and off after 6 minutes.

If you are saying this happens on a really cold night, the assumption is that on milder nights, it seems to work adequately.....If that's the case, there is a possibility that it is marginally sized in capacity to heat the space in which it is installed. If it has a "fresh air" damper setting, make sure that is closed completely, because that is air directly from outside the structure that is being brought in through the blower and adds more load to the space and makes the discharge air feel colder.
Cooling gas is missing. Call some AC service in near to fill it, ask more of them for price. Do not switch it on until you solve this to prevent higher damage.
units are measured in btu's there are 12000 btus per ton. there is a number in the model number that is divisible by 12. the 48 in your model number indicates that it is in fact a 4 ton
Hi,
If you reset the GFCI button and then when you go to turn it on the button pops again, then you have a short inside the units probably in the fan motor or the compressor..
There is a time delay on the stat to the AC unit, in addition the AC unit likely has one also, so immediate activation as desired isnt likely, however in 10 minutes of asking for AC if its not on still Id check the time delay fuses in the service disconnect at the AC unit, its a small grey box with the power cords running to and from it, there is 2 time delay fuses inside this box.
