I have a kicker L7 2003 model and i need to replace the voice coils. i managed to get the spider and the cone out succsefully. i even managed to find a new voice coil.
i need help pulling apart the coil from the cone. also what information i should take note of before taking it completely apart.
i also will need to know how to align a new coil onto the spider/cone.
this tutorial is for traditional speakers. the ones i have are square and the dust cap doesnt seemt to come off. i could try to cut it off but i need to see one taken apart first. this tutorial is for traditional speakers. the ones i have are square and the dust cap doesnt seemt to come off. i could try to cut it off but i need to see one taken apart first.

About all you can do if your really wanting to "fix" it, is tear it apart & completely recoil both voice coils. Otherwise you can just run it on the one good side like a single voice coil sub.
I dont think that kicker has a recone kit available for L7, after they started building the cone as a one piece structure without a dustcap, making it impossible to align the coil in the gap.
Myself, i have considered the possibility of using the carbon fibre maxxonics recone kits, it may need some tweeking to make it work. but will be quite strong and you could try different coil impedences, aluminum formers etc.
if you dont feel adventurous, than you might be able to send in your sub to kicker for service. i think they just send off a new sub to you, at a discount......
The bad news is that your voice coils could be fried up, basically mechanical failure. Might as well buy a new sub because replacing a voice coil means you got to rip the whole sub apart, very complicating.
If the tinsil wires all look good then chances are you broke a lead in the coil, the only way I know of to fix this is to order new voice coils and a new spider and replace them..
There are places on the web to order parts, you just need to take good measurments of the parts and relay them to the stores.
The only Kicker woofer that has a replacement cone/assembly is the SoloX woofers. All of those have what Kicker calls it's SPARE which is a field replacement assembly. They're designed for SPL competitions.
the voice coils are blown and they would replace the the whole cone and coil assembly, it is almost as much as buying a new sub, email me I am a car audio wholesale dealer and I beat any price ( with full factory authorized warranty !! ).
well you can bring it into the place you bought it.. or a place where they sell kicker brand subs.. and ask them for a fix..
they'll either order you another one or.. they'll send it to be fixed.. depends on what it is(note) kicker L7 is made to be taken apart and fixed
Hello. I do speaker reconing and amp rebuilds for a living and the L7's often suffer from tinsel leed wire breakage which can cause "poping" and "screaching" noises in the sub in various cone positions. You need to remove the sub and push straight down on the cone repeatly and determine if you can feel or hear crunching noises to make sure the voice coil and/or spider are not damaged. A faulty leed wire can usually be identified by a dark spot or obvious breakage. All of the L5 and L7 models can be successfully repaired as long as they are the older models that have a center cap in the cone. The newer capless models will have to have an upper brace cap glued to all of the cone's fingers and will have a rather ugly appearance. Leed wire overhauls usually run around $30.00 for the older models. Voice coil and spider overhauls run around $90.00.
common problem of this subs are in the litles cables that goes to the voice coil. few times brock....check those.
another .....if you heard the music too hihg with many bass..and your amp ..i think is big block... may be you blow off!!!!!!!!!
the voice coil and the little wires...im calling trencillas...are the aquiles talon of this L7 and a manny others kickers.
check the ¨TRENCILLAS¨ FIRST.
