Even when we remove the battery and replace it it is still stuck on the first screen. We can't get the phone to get past this point. It started when we tried to reset the password for Facebook.
You can try an external reset via instructions here: How do reset my DROID 3 to factory settings

Many phones have a reset button on it so that you can do it yourself. Unfortunately some motorola phones do not. The reset button is a small hole that is usually found on the side of the phone but can be located elsewhere. If you find the reet button just stick a saftey pin r something into the hole and hold for a few seconds. They phone will shut down and restart. But when it cmes back on you will have no inforamation in it. It will be like a new phone when you first buy it. Hope i helped!!
SOURCE: Motorola Q9m frozen how can I get my contacts
I can't tell you how many times this phone has frozen, and unless you've been using a sync program, you're out of luck.
You can do a hard reset, which resets the phone to factory settings by removing the battery to shut down, then put the battery back in. Hold down the middle key on the silver directional pad while powering on. It takes 5-10 seconds but you will see the "Master Reset" option on your screen, follow the directions.
This happened all the time until I went to the Motorola site and did full phone update ( http://direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/Motosupport/source/SoftwareUpdateSelect.asp?country=USA&language=ENS ) Now my Q9m which used to freeze 1-2 times per month hasn't frozen in 6 months - good luck!
