Not sure if you have a Star Series SU or the newer Air Electronic SU machines but its similar for both. Firstly unplug the machine from the power. On the top of the machine head above the light and presser foot, there is a little hole, place the tiny screw driver that came with your accessory kit into this hole and push down. The bulb and assembly will come down on a spring, you may need a spare hand from someone to push this down. The bulb is a bayonet socket, so push and turn bulb to release. It goes in on an angle though, sometimes its easier first time to lie machine over on a towel on its side and have a look at what you are doing as you push down on the socket. Bulbs are 15w bayonet, if you remove the old one and take it to the shop, should be able to find something similar even if its not branded Elna.
Hope this assists.
Are you sure you put the correct type of needle in? Normally, if you have any problem, cleaning and oiling will fix it. It sounds like you either didn't tighten the needle screw or you put the wrong type of needle in.
Ok. I know that this question is old, but on the offhand that someone else is looking, I'll give input. The bulb that came out of mine is a Okusun 120V/15W bayonet mount, twin lead. The bulb I replace it with is a Sylvannia T7 number 15T7DC/BL/12 rated at 120V and 15W.
IF YOU ARE UNFAMILIAR AROUND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT DON'T DO THIS. There are high voltage capacitors in this unit. Make sure you are unplugged and leave it to allow voltage to drain from the capacitors. By the way, I also found a fuse 15 amp if yours has stopped working.
Take the six screws from the top panel off. Two on top and four on rear of microwave. I also took the right side panel off (looking at the microwave), but I don't think you have to.
One screw holds down the bayonet mount and allows the removal and replacement of the bulb.
You need to change the bulb.
Most light bulbs in almost all sewing machines are located inside the face plate on the left hand side of the machine.
The faceplate is usually hinged at the back and it opens a bit like a door. It should open fairly easily and close with a click.
Open the faceplate and unscrew the bulb, it should be in plain view.
Look to see if it a screw or bayonet type.
Replace it the same way you would an ordinary bulb.
You can get sewing machine bulbs on ebay but you'll need to know which type of fitting it has before you buy.
Hope this helps!
There are usually small screws around the outside of the globe that screw into a recess on the globe with a rubber ring around it to keep the screws from hitting the glass.
I have an Elna TSP (about 35 years old) that I believe is about the same as yours. There is a small hold on the top of the sewing machine (not an oiling hold) near the front. Use the small screw driver that came with the machine and push it down into the hole. The light bulb will be pushed down in back of the needle. The bulb has a bayonet type socket and you have to push up and twist the bulb to remove it. This is not striaght forward and you really need the owners manual to figure it out. If you do not have the original screwdriver, one from an eyeglass repair kit might work. I found your question because I am trying to locate a replacement bulb for my Elna.
On the left hand side of the machine on the end cap.
Changing the Light Bulb
The sewing light is located behind the face plate.
UNPLUG THE MACHINE. Wait until the bulb is COOL before you touch it!
1 2 3 Remove screw cap , screw and face plate .
To remove: pull out bulb from socket.
To replace: insert bulb into socket.
Attach face plate and insert screw and screw cap.
NOTE: Replace bulb with same type rated 12V, 5W.
I hope this helps. Don't forget to rate my answer.
